Cruise vessel ‘Insignia’ calls at New Mangaluru Port

Mangaluru, Sep 28: Cruise vessel M.V. Insignia has called at New Mangalore Port with 625 cruise passengers and 400 crew members onboard. This is the first cruise vessel which calls at the port during the beginning of the cruise season from September to April.

The vessel which came from Goa berthed at the Port on Sunday morning and around 400 passengers and crew opted for ground tour arranged by the local tour operator, Lia Travels.

Majority of the tourist passengers are from United States of America and Canada. They visited various locations in and around Mangaluru like Mangaladevi temple, Gokarnanatha temple, St Aloysius Chappel, Cashew processing units, Monolithic statue of lord bahubali at Karkala, Soans farm and 1000 pillar jain basadi at Moodabidri, city shopping, etc.

After enjoying the scenic beauty of Mangalore, the passengers returned to the vessel and sailed out to Cochin in the evening. J.M. Baxi & Co are the agents of the vessel.

The Port authorities have received the vessel by presenting a flower bouquet to the captain. The captain has expressed happiness over the arrangements made by the port for smooth handling of the vessel and passengers. NMPT has witnessed a steady growth in handling cruise vessels during the past few years. The port is expected to receive 21 cruise vessels during the current financial year.

Bhatkal, May 8: In a shocking development 12 new coronavius positive cases were detected in Bhatkal town of Uttara Kannada district in a single day. 

Around 20 days ago an 18-year-old girl in Bhatkal was tested positive for the covid-19. The source of this infection was the First Neuro hospital located at Padil in Mangaluru where a covid-19 patient from Bantwal had undergone treatment. 

Now, the Bhatkal girl’s family members and neighbours also have tested positive for the deadly virus. Madeena Colony, Usmainya Colony, Nawayath Colony, Tengungundi Cross, Hindu Colony, Kukti Nagar, Jali Cross and Azad Nagar are sealed down by officials after the confirmation of new cases. 

Those infected include a 5-month-old baby, elderly people aged 60, 75, 83 and children aged 3, 11 and 12 years. 

Meanwhile, Kumata-Honnavar MLA Dinakar K Shetty has written to Uttara Kannada DC urging the complete seal down of Bhatkal taluk.

Udupi, July 18 A 15-year-old boy lost his life due to electrocution after he came in contact with a live wire last evening near his house at Laxminagar under the limits of Malpe police station in Udupi. 

The deceased has been identified as Gautham (15), son of Manjunath Naiak, a resident of Laxminagar.  

Police sources said, the electrocution occurred while he was lifting a pump set from the well at his neighbour’s house. He died on the spot. 

A case has been registered at Malpe Police Station and investigation is on.

Gautham had recently appeared for SSLC examinations.

Davanagere, Jan 19: Seven people, including four women, were arrested for allegedly selling a 13-month-old female baby here on Saturday.

Police said that the baby was sold to a couple who had no child. The couple hailed from Ranebennur town in Haveri District of Karnataka. They sold the baby, which was their fourth child.

The arrested were identified as Kavita (26) and her husband Manjunath (couple who sold the baby), Dakshayani (34) and her husband Ravi (49) of Ranebennur, Haveri District (the couple who purchased the baby, Chitramma (44) Nurse, Kamalamma (45) and Karibasappa, who acted as middlemen for the deal.
