CT Ravi defends withdrawal of compensation for victims of Mangaluru police firing

Moodbidri, Dec 25: Karnataka Minister for Tourism C T Ravi on Wednesday, defending the Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa's decision to withdraw the compensation announced to two dead in police firing, said that they were named in the FIR filed and if compensation was given it would result in pulling down the morale of police force.

He was responding to a question by reporters in the wake of government’s move to withdraw the compensation that was announced to the families of Abdul Jaleel and Nousheen who died in police firing in Mangaluru on December 19.

'The violence was conspired. If we look at the CCTV footages that were released recently, we can easily make out that it was pre-planed. The violence and clashes came under control after the police took adequate measures otherwise things would turn worst' Mr Ravi told reporters in Moodbidri.

Replying to another question by a reporter the minister added that the visuals of CCTV footage confirmed those died in police firing were not innocent and were involved in the violence against police.

Dakshina Kannada clocks 50 fatalities to covid-19

Mangaluru, July 13: With the confirmation of four more deaths related to novel coronavirus, the covid-19 death toll in Dakshina Kannada has mounted to 50.

In fact, the four fatalities had occurred on Saturday. Today the authorities concerned that they were tested positive for Covid-19.

The deceased include two septuagenarians, a sexagenarian, and a 53-year-old. All of them were male.

Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh revealed that their comorbidities were diabetes in ICU, pneumonia in ICU, hepatitis in ICU, severe acute respiratory infection and carcinoma of the lung respectively.

Siddaramaiah demands all-party panel to monitor treatment-related issues in hospitals

Bengaluru, Jun 30: Former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday demanded setting up of an all-party committee to monitor treatment-related issues in hospitals and said there are allegations of "corruption and nepotism" in the management of COVID-19 treatment.

Siddaramaiah said in a tweet that Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa should immediately form all-party monitoring committee.

"This is very much needed to increase public confidence in the backdrop of several complaints," he said.
"There are allegations of corruption and nepotism in the management of COVID-19 treatment. It is need of the hour to manage this unprecedented health crisis with public safety as the only objective," he said in another tweet.

He urged the Chief Minister to make the treatment protocol clear to the patients and instil hope. "Do not keep them in dark," he said.

The senior Congress leader also urged the Chief Minister to extend insurance and other benefits to private hospital doctors, nurses and support staff.
Karnataka has reported a total of 14,295 COVID-19 cases.

Mosques in Karnataka lead fight against Corona; caution through loudspeakers four times a day

Mangaluru, Mar 29: Mosques across Karnataka are now turning into centers to create awareness against deadly coronavirus that cause Covid-19.

The state government's board of auqaf has issued a notification to the administrations of all mosques to use their loud speakers to create awareness against the virus.

All the mosques in the state have already suspended congregational prayers to prevent the spread of the virus.

As per the decision of the state board of auqaf, now all mosques have to play the audio clips that creates awareness against the virus in three languages.

The clips will be played at 10 a.m., 4 p.m., 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. everyday.
