Curtains came down on the 14th edition Alva’s Nudisiri held under the theme Foundations of Pluralism and organised by Alva’s Education Foundation in Moodbidri on Sunday.
The event was packed with literary, cultural, agricultural, photography, performing arts, drawing, and folklore programmes through all three days.
In his presidential address, writer and director Nagathihalli Chandrashekhar said: “We are connected to the world through our work; the one not working is almost not living.” He said: “Pluralism is omnipresent. It is a necessity of India to recognise the essence of pluralism and turn it into an asset.”
"It is best we transcend the boundaries that separate us, and travel back to the times where people lived in harmony even without technology. No other country has sustained its culture and rural traditions like India. They have developed technologically, but the loss of pluralistic orientation has caused a cultural void in most of the countries," he felt.
"Pluralism in India has sustained itself, but we also need to remember that democracy is our only identity once we step into the national sphere. Each of us has been entrusted with a set of duties, and we must perform them with the expected sense of responsibility. There are always forces that shall be an obstacle to goodwill, but good shall eventually transcend them," Nagatihalli Chandrashekar added.
Earlier, delivering the opening remarks, Alva’s chairman M. Mohan Alva said: “The success of Nudisiri-2017 has rejuvenated in me the zeal to pursue the passion and sustain this legacy for years to come.”
He said no one had made efforts to accurately comprehend and adhere by the principles of pluralism so far. Alva’s Nudisiri made an attempt in the direction and has considerably succeeded in contributing and exploring the dimensions of pluralism. The literary discourses have been the best so far, and the agriculture fair has been the largest, he said.
