D K Shivakumar appears before ED for third time in four days

Bengaluru, Sept 2: Congress veteran D K Shivakumar appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday for the third time in four days in connection with investigations into a money laundering case.

He had asked the ED officials not to call him on Monday owing to Ganesha Chaturthi festival but his request was rejected. 

Shivakumar celebrated the festival at his brother and Congress MP DK Suresh's residence here along with other family members. 

Before entering ED office, he cautioned his followers, who came to Delhi to meet him, not to create any trouble. 

He told reporters that he was sad he couldn't observe Gauri festival on Sunday. His family used to conduct special ceremonies to remember their ancestors and he couldn't do it this time as his request was turned down by the ED, an emotional Shivakumar said. 

The former minister was first questioned for five hours on Friday and then for more than nine hours on Saturday.

The ED has registered a case of money laundering on the basis of a chargesheet filed by Income Tax Department.

Udupi, Feb 27: Silver ornaments worth Rs 10 lakh were stolen from the Badakere Laxmi Janardhana temple under Byndoor police station limits in Udupi district. 

The theft which reportedly took place on Wednesday late night, came to light today morning.

Notably, this is the fourth incident reported during the last two months.

Kundapur, Mar 2: A 43-year-old man was arrested by the local police in Udupi district after he allegedly raised pro-Pakistan at Mini Vidhana Soudha in Kundapur today morning.

The man has been identified as Raghavendra Ganiga (43), a resident of Kody in Kundapur. He was working as a Hindi teacher in a private school in the town a few years ago.

According to sources, Ganiga arrived at the Mini Vidhana Soudha at around 10 am and scaled the steps to the building raising 'Pakistan Zindabad' slogans repeatedly.

He continued to raise slogans on the corridor and after entering a hall.  A few people recorded this drama on their mobile phones and informed the police.

Later, Kundapur tahisldar filed a written complaint against with the local police, who took Ganiga into custody.

According to police, Ganiga was under depression after his wife deserted him and left him with their only child.

Mangaluru, Jul 16: Streets in Mangaluru wore a deserted look as the city woke up to the first morning of the seven-day lockdown on Thursday.

The lockdown is being observed after the state government announced it as a necessary step to combat the spread of COVID-19.

The week-long total shutdown came into effect in the Karnataka's Dakshina Kannada district from 8 pm on July 15 till 5 am on July 22.

The state government allowed relaxation between 8am to 11 am for purchasing of essential commodities. A slight rush was observed during the hours of the relaxation.

Karnataka has so far reported 47,253 positive COVID-19 cases, including 27,859 active cases and 18,466 recoveries.

So far, 928 people have lost their lives due to the infectious virus in the state.
