Mangaluru, Nov 2: A police constable attached to Belthangady police station in Dakshina Kannada district, has been suspended after he exhibited his inclination towards Sangh Parwar through a Facebbok post.

The man in-khaki who openly showed his saffron colour is Raj Shivappa. A resident of Bagalkot, Shivappa joined Karnataka State Police as a constable six years ago and was posted to the Dakshina Kannada district police unit. He has worked at the Belthangady police station for the past five years.

He was suspended under the Karnataka Police Disciplinary Act after a local resident, Abhinandan, lodged a complaint against him. Disciplinary proceedings were initiated against him. Superintendent of Police Sudheer Kumar Reddy said that a departmental inquiry was ordered against Shivappa.

Policemen are expected to be apolitical and impartial. In a recent Facebook post, he had questioned the chief minister Siddaramaiah's secular credentials.

He had also posted a set of pictures showing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Dharmasthala and Siddaramaiah having a fish meal prior to his visit to Dharmasthala on October 22.

The post also hails Modi, who according to Shivappa, followed Hindu traditions in visiting the presiding deity at Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala after observing a fast and offering prayers.

Bengaluru, Feb 19: Karnataka Forest Minister Anand Singh on Wednesday said that there was no criminal case filed directly against him.

When asked about PIL filed in the Karnataka High Court against him, Singh told media: "Some lawyer has filed a PIL against me in the High Court. I cannot stop anyone from filing the PIL."

"I have given my criminal record. There is no criminal case directly filed against me. My name is there in some cases but in 'others category'. We will see what happens," he said.

When asked about Congress leader Siddaramaiah's comments criticising him for being given the forest portfolio, Singh said: "I cannot comment on what he said against me as he is a former chief minister and very senior leader."

"Also the opposition always tries to make allegations against me. That is why he criticised me," he said.

Leader of Opposition in Karnataka Assembly Siddaramaiah on Monday demanded that Forest Minister Anand Singh should either be expelled from the ministry or assigned a different portfolio.

A number of cases are pending against Singh including those registered under the Karnataka Forest Act.

Bengaluru, Feb 28: BS Yediyurappa’s contribution to the economy is substantial, and he is one CM who has contributed largely to making India the fifth largest economy, said Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday.

“He will ensure that Karnataka contributes towards making India the third-largest economy in the coming days,” Singh said, who had flown from New Delhi to participate in the CM’s birthday celebrations.

Singh recalled Yediyurappa asking him how to increase welfare measures for farmers, and had suggested that the CM reduce interest rates on loans to help the community. “Yediyurappa took the suggestion seriously and reduced interest of loans to a mere 4 % and gradually reduced it to 1 % before coming down to zero,” Singh said, appreciating Yediyurappa’s love for farmers.
