Mangaluru, Apr 17: If Dakshina Kannada registers a high turnout of voters in April 18 Lok Sabha polls, it will work in favour of BJP, according to incumbent MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, who is seeking reelection for the third consecutive term.

Addressing a press conference at the party’s election office before winding up his public campaign yesterday, Mr Kateel said that he was expecting a good turnout of voters for polling.

Expressing confidence on achieving a hat-trick of victories by defeating Youth Congress leader Mithun Rai, the MP said that people of the constituency will bless him once again as they not only want him but also want to see Narendra Modi as their prime minister once again. The recent visit of Mr. Modi to Mangaluru has boosted the spirit of the party workers further, he said.

Hee said that when he faced the election for the first time in 2009 he was new to voters but party workers knew him. Then, the BJP was in power in the State and among the eight Assembly segments in Dakshina Kannada, the BJP and the Congress shared four seats each, he said.

He could connect to the voters through the party workers. Mr. Kateel said that when he faced the last Lok Sabha election in 2014 the BJP had won only one Assembly segment, that is Sullia, leaving the remaining seven to the Congress. There was an undercurrent of “Modi wave” in the constituency. The Page Pramukhs of the party took the lead with the party workers in the campaign. Now, in this election.
