Dakshina kannada receives excess rainfall

Mangaluru, Jul 6: The coastal district of Dakshina Kannada has received excess rainfall than the normal in June this year.

Kumar, additional deputy commissioner, said during a meeting with officials here that as against the normal average rainfall of 942 mm, the district has received 944 mm rainfall in June.

The disrict and the coastal belt has been witnessing heavy downpour for the past few days.

The district has received 124.4 cms of rains from January to July this year as against the 109.8 cms recorded last year during the same period, he added.

In the wake of the bomb found at Mangalore Airport on Monday morning, the team visited the railway station as a precautionary measure.

Bengaluru, May 30: Health Minister B Sriramulu banned the consumption of chewing tobacco in public places on Saturday, which is marked as World Tobacco Day. The ban would include chewing paan masala and spitting in public places.

In June 2013, the state banned the manufacture, storage, sale, or distribution of gutka and paan masala containing tobacco or nicotine as ingredients to reduce the prevalence of tobacco use. On October 26, 2016, the state proscribed all kinds of chewing tobacco, containing tobacco or nicotine or both in accordance with the Supreme Court order.

Karnataka is the second state in India to ban e-cigarettes. The state also prohibited single cigarettes. Until September 2019, the state counselled 15,698 patients in tobacco cessation centres set up in private dental colleges.

Belgaum, May 6: A police constable engaged in security duty at the Belgaum District Collector's bungalow committed suicide by shooting himself on Wednesday morning.

The deceased was identified as Prakash Gurvannavar (32) who was a native of Ambadgatti village in Kittur taluka in the Belgaum district.

Upon receiving information about the incident, Commissioner of Police Lokesh Kumar rushed to the spot.

Further investigation is underway.
