A Dalit leader should become CM of Karnataka, says Parameshwara

Hassan, Apr 30: Home Minister and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president G. Parameshwara, on Friday, reiterated that a Dalit leader should become Chief Minister (CM) of the State.

G-Parameshwar Speaking at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar's 125th birth anniversary programme organised in Sakleshpur, he said that the demand for a Dalit CM?is only to prove the capability of the deprived class.

“I never said that I should become CM. Either Mallikarjun Kharge, Srinivas Prasad or anyone else should, for that matter,” he said.

The issue of a Dalit leader becoming Chief Minister had been raked up many times in the past.

However, he said, nothing will change at once if a Dalit becomes a CM. However, such a move can be an opportunity for Dalits to show the world that they can govern well too,” Mr. Parameshwara said.

Recalling various incidents in his life, Parameshwara said, “I?am proud of being a Dalit. I took every insult in my life as a challenge and thus attained this status.”

Further, he questioned the rationale behind referring to Dalits as backward classes'. “When will Dalits be taken off the list of backward classes,” he asked.

JD(S) MLA?H?K?Kumaraswamy,?in his presidential address said, except Congress, all political parties in the state have announced their CM?candidate. “I have no faith that a Dalit from JD(S) can become a CM. At the most, I?could become a minister but not the CM,” he said.

Let him sincerely do the duty which has entrusted to him, rather than grumbling in the name of Dalit? These so called dirt and filth minded politicians are bane to the Natiion. They don't have an iota of dignity? These are like poisonous creatures, which spread their dirty venoms in the society and create hatred amongst the people and politicians. These sort of dirty thugs should be discarded by the like minded civilised citizens of our state and the Great Nation of India, to have a peaceful and cordial relationship among its Gentleman Citizens. COVID-19: BSY govt slammed for discrimination in distribution of relief materials

Bengaluru, Apr 15: The Opposition Congress in Karnataka on Wednesday accused the BJP government, headed by Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, of showing discrimination in distribution of relief material to those affected by the lockdown, clamped to check the spread of Novel Coronavirus, by favouring constituencies represented by the ruling BJP Legislators.

Despite that, the party intends to extend full cooperation to the government during this hour of crisis without indulging in politics, it urged the administration to be “transparent”.

''We have had our (Congress) Task Force meeting today, during which we discussed several matters. There is a lot of difference between the government's talk and its deeds,'' KPCC President D K Shivakumar said.

Karnataka: 8 new covid-19 cases reported including 2 in coastal region; death toll reaches 28

Bengaluru, May 5: A 62-year-old woman from Vijayapura succumbed to coronavirus infection on Tuesday, taking the COVID-19 death toll in Karnataka to 28, a health official said.

The state has registered eight more COVID-19 cases in the past 19 hours, increasing the count of such cases to 659, the official added.

"Positive case 640, 62-year-old female resident of Vijayapura died on Tuesday due to cardiac arrest," the health official said.

Admitted to a designated hospital''s ICU on Sunday, the woman was also suffering from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Bronchial Asthma (BA) and complained of breathlessness.

Among the eight fresh cases that emerged in the state, four were contacts of earlier cases, two with Influenza Like Illness (ILI) and one with travel history to Uttarakhand.

The health department is also tracing the contact history of a 30-year-old woman from Bengaluru Urban.

Incidentally, no new cases emerged from Davangere as 22 cases rocked the district on Monday.

Among the new cases, Bengaluru Urban contributed 3, followed by Bagalkote, 2, Ballari, Dakshina Kannada and Bhatkal in Uttara Kannada, 1 each.

Of the new cases, six are men and two women.

Women lead massive protest demanding liquor ban in Karnataka

Bagalkote, Jan 27: The bank of Krishna River in front of Sangamantha Temple at Koodalasangama in Karnataka today witnessed the launch of women’s indefinite strike demanding liquor ban in the state.

Thousands of women from various parts of Karnataka have taken part in the strike being organised under the banner of 'Karnataka Madya Nisheda Andolana'.

The strike was launched to draw the attention of the state government to press for a complete ban on the sale of liquor across the state.

About 50 various organizations and religious pontiffs have extended their support for the strike. Food is being cooked on the bank of the river for the agitating women.

The women from Chikmagalur, Tumakuru, Raichur and Ballari districts are taking part in it.
