Dalit student death: Govt sought action report 4 times

January 20, 2016

New Delhi, Jan 20: The Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry had sent at least four reminders to University of Hyderabad, seeking action taken report on Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya’s complaint that the campus had become a “den of anti-national politics”.

DalitOfficials concerned, however, defended the Ministry’s action, maintaining that the university was not directed to take action against any student. The defence came a day after they described the forwarding of Dattatreya’s letter to the Central university as a “routine affair”.

“The Ministry only followed the rules. According to central secretariat manual of office procedures, communications received from Members of Parliament have to be acknowledged within 15 days of their receipt, followed by reply within next 15 days,” HRD Ministry spokesperson Ghanshyam Goel said, refuting the charge that the varsity expelled five Dalit students under pressure from Union Minister Smriti Irani.

The explanations came after official letters of the HRD Ministry, written to University of Hyderabad seeking action taken report on Union Minister of State (MoS) for Labour and Employment Dattatreya’s complaint, began circulating in media circles and later went viral on social media on Tuesday.

“Hyderabad University in the recent past has become den of casteist, extremist and anti-national politics. I earnestly hope under your dynamic leadership things would change in this campus for the better,” Dattatreya stated in his letter to Irani on August 17, 2015.

The Minister sought Irani’s intervention on the request of a local BJP leader Nandanam Diwakar, who complained that N Susheel Kumar, a PhD student and leader of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, was assaulted by Ambedkar Students’ Association members on the campus after the former protested against a prayer meeting organised by them (Ambedkar association), for Parliament attack convict Yakub Memon.

“He was abused, interrogated, manhandled, tortured and humiliated for his facebook status—‘ASA goons are talking about hooliganism—feeling funny’. Attack on him is the consequence of unchallenged growth of violent tendency on university campus aided by the failings of university,“ Diwakar stated in his three-page letter to Dattatreya on August 10.

The BJP leader urged the Union Minister to take up the matter with “Home Minister, intelligence agencies and HRD Minister”, saying any further delay “in addressing the problems” will not only harm Kumar but also other students in the future.

Thereafter, at least four reminders were sent to the University seeking action taken report, on September 24, October 6, October 20 and November 19, 2015. “The comments/facts have not been received so far. It is requested that same may kindly be expedited to enable the Ministry to reply to MoS,” HRD Ministry’s under secretary wrote to the university registrar on November 19.

He looks very smart but the caste system buried his intelligence. When will V wake up to the oppression of the people who think they are superior.....
But I remember Prophet Muhammad pbuh teachings who said:
There is no God but ALLAH, Worship him Alone & dont associate partners with him.
He also said : All humans are from Adam & Eve, An arab is not superior than Non arab Nor A non arab superior than an arab, A white is not superior than Black, Nor a black superior than white.. EXCEPT by Piety & Good Deeds...
Man Made Caste system is digging the graves of others - If we dont realise the reality of Worship - We will be doomed like this smart youth.

Jun 13: The Congress on Saturday accused the BJP-led government of burdening the common man with high taxes on petrol and diesel and earning Rs 2.5 lakh crore since March 5.

Congress leader Kapil Sibal said while international crude oil prices have fallen and are at the lowest level in 15 years, yet petrol and diesel prices are skyrocketing and common people continue to suffer under the Modi dispensation.

He said instead of passing the benefit of lower crude prices to consumers, petrol and diesel prices were hiked for the seventh straight day on June 13.

"The government has earned as much as Rs 44,000 crore in the last six days due to hike in petrol, diesel prices. Since March 5, the government has earned as much as Rs 2.5 lakh crore by way of increasing petrol, diesel prices.

"If the government had even the slightest feelings for the common man, instead of benefitting the companies and the government, the prime minister would have helped the common man with reduced fuel prices," Sibal said at an online press conference.

According to a report by Care Ratings, he said the hike effectively meant that the Central government is collecting around 270 per cent taxes on the base price of petrol and 256 per cent in case of diesel.

The former union minister said petrol was selling at Rs 71.41 in Delhi on May 1, 2014, when international crude oil prices were USD 106.85, while on June 12, 2020, the price of petrol was Rs 75.16 when the crude oil was at USD 38.

He said central excise and VAT cumulatively account for 69 per cent of tax on fuel in India which is higher than anywhere else in the world. He said the tax of fuel in the US was 19 per cent, Japan 47 per cent, the UK 62 per cent, France 63 per cent and Germany 65 per cent.

Dirbrugarh, Feb 4: Three persons, including two BJP activists, have been arrested for allegedly attacking the residence of Union minister Rameswar Teli during anti-CAA protests in Assam, police said on Monday.

The house of Teli, Union Minister of State for Food Processing, in Upper Assam's Duliajan town was attacked on December 11 during the statewide stir against the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019.

"Based on CCTV footages, Debajit Hazarika, Vicky Sonar and Arup Kahar were arrested. We had picked them up on Sunday," Dibrugarh Superintendent of Police, Sreejith T told PTI.

A total of 18 persons have been arrested so far for allegedly attacking Teli's house, he said.

"These three persons were also involved in pelting stones on a police party during protests in Duliajan," Sreejith said.

A BJP source confirmed that Debajit Hazarika and Vicky Sonar are party activists.

Family members of the accused have given statements to the police on the arrested persons' alleged role in violence and attacking Teli's house, sources said.

When contacted, Teli said, "I do not know for what reasons they were apprehended. But if police arrested them after proper investigation, then there must be some truth. The trio stays near my house. They always attended my programmes with their families."

A total of 88 people have been arrested so far from Dibrugarh district for their alleged involvement in violence during protests against the Act.

New Delhi, Jun 27: Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai on Saturday called an emergency meeting here to discuss the situation following a locust attack in neighbouring Gurugram.

The minister also directed the administration to be alert, an official said.

"After the emergency meeting, an advisory will be issued on steps to be taken to deal with the situation," Rai told PTI.

He asked the officials of the Agriculture department to make field visits to areas close to Gurugram.

The development secretary, divisional commissioner, director, Agriculture department, and the district magistrates of South Delhi and West Delhi will attend the meeting, the official said.

Earlier in the day, the skies over many parts of Gurugram turned dark as swarms of locusts descended on the town.

However, the migratory pests are likely to spare the national capital for now, officials said.

The swarms of locusts, spread across two kilometres, moved from west to east. They entered Gurugram around 11.30 am, K L Gurjar of the Locust Warning Organisation, Ministry of Agriculture, told PTI.

The pests, he said, were headed towards Faridabad and Palwal in Haryana.

Alarmed at the invasion of the locusts, which settled on trees, rooftops and plants, many residents of Gurugram shared videos from their high-rise perches.

In May, India battled a devastating desert locust outbreak. The crop-destroying swarms first attacked Rajasthan and then spread to Punjab, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.

According to experts, broadly four species of locusts are found in India – desert locust, migratory locust, Bombay locust and tree locust. The desert locust is considered the most destructive.

It multiplies very rapidly and is capable of covering 150 kilometers in a day.

This insect, a type of a grasshopper, can eat more than its body weight. A one square kilometer of locust swarm containing around 40 million locusts can in a day eat as much food as 35,000 people.

Experts blame the growing menace of desert locusts on climate change. They say breeding of locusts is directly related to soil moisture and food availability.
