New Delhi, May 25: As they say, slow and steady wins the race. And while we kept calculating the humongous figures of SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus Baahubali: The Conclusion, Aamir Khan’s Dangal has won the race at least in China.

The sports biopic has become the first top grossing non-Hollywood film in China by earning $117 million at the box office.

China’s popular ticketing website Maoyan confirmed the news on Tuesday. EntGroup, a leading entertainment consultancy group, also reported that the tickets sales of Dangal, which released in the country on May 5, have crossed 806 million yuan. And these figures are only increasing by the day.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the latest figures on Wednesday, which now stand at $120.01 million. He wrote, “#Dangal continues win hearts + win BO in China… Week 3: Mon: $ 3.40 mn Tue: $ 3.10 mn Total: $ 120.01 million [? 778.25 cr].”

Ramesh Bala also took to Twitter and wrote the collections till Tuesday, “#Dangal @ #China BO on Tuesday, May 23rd 2017 collects $3.07 Million [? 19.91 Crs ].. Total now stands at $120 Million [? 778.32 Crs]” he tweeted.

This has made Dangal the highest performing non-Hollywood foreign film in the China. The film, which is based on the life of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat, trumped the record of Your Name, a Japanese fantasy drama, which netted 577 million yuan ($84 million) at the box office last year.

Prasad Shetty, partner of Strategic Alliance, a Chinese firm promoting Indian films in China for the past few years, had said that Dangal created a new record by earning $15 million on Saturday alone. Dangal is Aamir Khan’s third film to be released in China.

He is already a popular star in the country, thanks to the success of his previous films 3 Idiots and PK there. Currently, Dangal is running in about 7000 screens in China and has become as popular as Raj Kapoor’s Awara in 1950.

The film, which has been directed by Nitesh Tiwari, is going neck-to-neck with Baahubali 2 but going by the trends, Dangal might take a day or two to surpass its worldwide collections.

Ramesh Bala in another tweet wrote, “#Dangal @ WW BO (Till May 23rd 2017): #China – ? 778 Crs #Taiwan – ? 26 Crs RoW – ? 744 Crs Total – ? 1,548 Crs.” Baahubali 2 stood at Rs 1577 crore until Monday.

Dangal had its worldwide release in December last year but its re-release in China few weeks back has only added to its massive business. Aamir, who went to China to promote his film prior to its big opening, was received with a lot of love by his Chinese fans. The superstar toured Beijing, Shanghai and Chengdu.

The film not only got a standing ovation at its premiere, but several top Chinese film stars also wrote about it in their blogs.

Adding to the Aamir mania, the actor became equally popular on China’s microblog Weibo where he now has 6.55 lakh followers. Aamir, who opened the account to promote the wrestling drama in China is identified in Chinese as ‘Amier Han’. Today, he has surpassed Prime Minister Narendra Modi to become the Indian with the largest following on Weibo.

Mumbai, Jul 19: Mumbai Police have registered an FIR against two Instagram account holders for allegedly threatening actor Rhea Chakraborty, an official said on Sunday.

The location of the two accused is yet to be traced, the official said, adding that the investigation in the case is at primary stage.

Chakraborty on Thursday requested the cyber crime cell to look into the rape and murder threats she has been receiving ever since the death of close friend, actor Sushant Singh Rajput.

Rajput, 34, was found dead in his apartment in suburban Bandra here on June 14, leaving people in the film industry and audiences shocked.

Chakraborty, in particular, was subjected to online hate with users blaming her for Rajput's suicide.

"We registered the First Information Report (FIR) on Saturday under Indian Penal Code Sections 507 (criminal intimidation by an anonymous communication), 509 (intending to insult modesty of any woman) and relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act," Santacruz police station's senior inspector Shriram Koregaonkar said.

"No arrest has been made so far. We are conducting an investigation in the case," he added.

On Thursday, sharing a screenshot of a hate message she received on Instagram, Chakraborty said while she had ignored many abusive texts sent to her in the past month, the harassment was now unbearable.

The 28-year-old actor eventually disabled the comments section of her Instagram page.

Chakraborty, known for films such as "Mere Dad Ki Maruti" and "Jalebi", had tagged the cyber cell and requested the authorities to look into the threats.

On June 18, she was called to the Bandra police station to record her statement in connection with Rajput's death.

A gang has been spreading rumours about me in the Hindi film industry that is preventing him from getting work, says Academy award-winning music director A R Rahman.

Collaborations between him and the Hindi film industry have reduced as a result, he adds

The maestro had composed music for Sushant Singh Rajput's Dil Bechara said that the reason he is not doing a lot of work is that a gang has been spreading rumours about him which resulted in him getting fewer projects.

Rahman's comments come amidst a raging insider versus outsider debate in Bollywood following actor Sushant Singh Rajput's untimely demise last month.

During an interview with Radio Mirchi, the Oscar-winning music director was asked the reason for doing less Hindi films.

Rahman said there has been "misunderstanding" between him and filmmakers as some people have been spreading "false rumours" about him in the industry.

"See, I don’t say no to good movies, but I think there is a gang, which, due to misunderstandings, is spreading some false rumours. So when Mukesh Chhabra came to me, I gave him four songs in two days. He said, 'Sir, how many people said don’t go, don’t go (to him). They told me stories after stories'," he said.

"I heard that, and I said, 'yeah okay, now I understand why I am doing less (work) and why the good movies are not coming to me.' I am doing dark movies, because there is a whole gang working against me, without them knowing that they are doing harm," the composer added.

Rahman has composed the music for Rajput's last movie "Dil Bechara", which premiered on Disney+ Hotstar on Friday. The film, directed by Mukesh Chhabra, also features Sanjana Sanghi and Saif Ali Khan.

The composer further said that he is aware of people's expectations from him but the "gang" is getting in his way.

"People are expecting me to do stuff, but there is another gang of people preventing that from happening. It is fine because I believe in destiny. I believe that everything comes from God.

"So, I am taking my own movies and doing my other stuff. But all of you are welcome to come to me. You make beautiful movies, and you are welcome to come to me," Rahman added.

Dubbed ‘Mozart of Madras’, A R Rahman has composed soundtracks for movies like Swades, Dil Se, Guru, Rockstar and more recently Sushant Singh Rajput’s Dil Bechara.

The composer won two Academy Awards in 2009 for his songs in the popular Hollywood movie, Slumdog Millionaire. The composer also received a Golden Globes Award for his work in this movie.
