Mangaluru, Feb 24: Holding saffron flags around one thousand people took to the streets in Manglauru on Friday endorsing the protest call given by Sangh Parivar to oppose the city visit of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who is supposed to address a communal harmony rally organized by the Left parties at Nehru Maidan, here, on Saturday.

Today’s protest rally from Dr B R Ambedkar Circle to Nehru Maidan was jointly organized by Vishwa Hindu Parishat, Bajrang Dal, Hindu Jagarana Vedike and Sri Rama Sene with the backing of Dakshina Kannada district unit of the Bharatiya Janta Party.

Udupi MP Shobha Karandlaje, former minister Krishna J Palemar and several leaders from Kerala BJP also took part in the rally. Speaking on the occasion, Zonal working presidet of Vishwa Hindu Parishad M P Puranik, accused Vijayan of presiding over political violence and murders in Kerala after taking over as chief minister.

“It is the responsibility of a CM to protect the interest of the people of the State. However, Vijayan has endorsed violence and resorted to avenge the political opponents after coming to power. He misused the power and eliminated those who came his way,” he alleged.

Kerala BJP leader and astrologer Ravish Tanthri said: “It is an irony that Vijayan, who heads a party that is engaged in killings and violence, is scheduled to a deliver talk on communal harmony.”

Clarifying that the Sangh Parivar did not give call for a bandh on Saturday, Bajrang Dal leader Sharan Pumpwell said that the Hindutva outfits have requested people of the district to participate voluntarily in the ‘hartal’ opposing killings and violence by left parties in Kerala.

“We have requested all educational institutions, bus owners, auto rickshaw owners, drivers, hotel owners, workers, students and office-goers to participate in the hartal," Sharan said.

Bengaluru, Jul 9: Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Thursday said the Covid-19 situation was “getting out of control a little” in some parts of the state, but assured citizens that authorities were taking necessary steps.

“In some districts, it’s getting out of control a little. But the district administration and police are working day and night,” Yediyurappa said before the Cabinet meeting where the Covid-19 situation will be discussed.

Speculation is rife that the government might consider stricter measures to curb the movement of people to try arresting the rising number of Covid-19 cases.

Later in the day, Yediyurappa is slated to inspect the Bengaluru International Exhibition Centre, which has been converted into a Covid Care Centre with 10,000 beds. The chief minister said he had ordered “immediate” arrangement of more ambulances for Bengaluru, where cases are rapidly shooting up.

“A team from the Centre had come. They’ve made some observations and they also appreciated us for some of the things we’ve done,” he added.

On Friday, Yediyurappa has convened a meeting of all Bengaluru ministers, legislators, MPs and councillors to discuss the Covid-19 pandemic in the city.

Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 7: Kerala government led by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday has come under the spotlight for depicting the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi on the cover of the state finance budget 2020-21 document.

Issuing clarification on the same, Issac justified that it is a political statement.

"Definitely, it is a political statement, the cover of my budget speech. It is a painting by a Malayalam artist of Mahatma Gandhi's murder scene. We are sending out a message that we will not forget who murdered Gandhi."

He also alleged that history is being re-written and National Register of Citizens (NRC) is being used to divide the country on communal lines.

"This is important at the times when history is being re-written. There is an attempt to erase some popular memories and use NRC to divide the population on communal lines. Kerala will stand united."

NRC is an official record of those people who are legal citizens of India. The dossier includes demographic information about all those individuals who qualify as citizens of India as per the Citizenship Act, 1955.

The register was first prepared after the 1951 Census of India and since then it has not been updated until recently.
