Lucknow, Mar 19: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government will celebrate its first year in office, in Uttar Pradesh (UP), on Monday.

To mark the completion of its first year in office, the UP government will be releasing a film called " Ek Saal-Naee Misaal" and a booklet highlighting its achievements.

A programme will also be held at the Lok Bhawan, which will be attended by the chief minister.

A government spokesperson said that the state government, in one year, has worked tremendously and has brought UP back on the track of development.

Recent losses

The one-year celebrations come less than a week after BJP lost the Lok Sabha seats of Gorakhpur and Phulpur to rival Samajwadi Party (SP) in bypolls.

SP won the seats after Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) agreed to not field their candidate and called on people to vote for the SP candidate instead.

Gorakhpur is the home constituency of Yogi Adityanath while Phulpur, a former constituency of Jawaharlal Nehru, was with now deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya.

Reacting to the losses at the News18 Rising India Summit, CM Adityanath said "every defeat is a lesson for us."

"Victories and losses are not a moment of happiness or sadness for us. Whenever we work with overconfidence and take results for granted, we will end up not working hard enough, so such results will naturally happen. Our workers and voters thought these are the seats of the chief minister and deputy chief minister, and so they took them for granted. Some didn't step out to vote, some didn't go for door-to-door campaign," Yogi said.

Mounting criticism

However, the Samajwadi Party attacked the BJP and said it had "not done anything significant" during its time in office.

SP President Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday said that the Yogi Adityanath-government in UP has deviated from the "real issues" and that it was the character of the BJP and only the regional forces "can stop its march," according to a statement issued here by his party.

Yadav also said that "the government of Yogi Adityanath has spent its first year in office by removing the word 'Samajwadi' from various schemes."

The BJP had swept the Assembly election in February 2017 by winning 325 off the 403 legislative seats.

New Delhi, Jan 31: Nirbhaya's mother Asha Devi on Friday said she will continue her fight till the convicts in the 2012 gangrape and murder case are hanged, shortly after a Delhi court postponed the execution of death warrants till further order.

Devi told reporters her "hopes are dashed" but she will continue her fight.

"These convicts have no right to live. We keep getting disappointed by the system. I will continue my fight till the convicts are hanged," she said.

A Delhi court postponed the execution of death warrants of the four convicts in the Nirbhaya gangrape and murder case till further order.

Additional sessions judge Dharmender Rana passed the order on a plea by the convicts seeking a stay on their execution on Saturday, February 1.

Devi said because of the loopholes in law the "criminals' lawyers had the audacity to challenge me in court that they will not be hanged".

The black warrants for execution of the death sentence against Pawan Gupta, Vinay Kumar Sharma, Akshay Kumar and Mukesh Kumar Singh, were issued on January 17.

A 23-year-old physiotherapy intern who came to be known as "Nirbhaya" (the fearless one) was gangraped and savagely assaulted on the night of December 16, 2012, in a moving bus in South Delhi. She died of her injuries a fortnight later in a Singapore hospital.

New Delhi, Mar 16: Reliance Group Chairman Anil Ambani has been summoned by the ED in connection with its money laundering probe against Yes Bank promoter Rana Kapoor and others, officials said on Monday.

They said Ambani was asked to depose at the Enforcement Directorate office in Mumbai on Monday as his group companies are among the big entities whose loans went bad after borrowing from the crisis-hit bank.

The officials said Ambani, 60, has sought exemption from appearance on some personal grounds and he may be issued a new date.

Ambani's group companies are stated to have taken loans of about Rs 12,800 crore from the bank that turned NPAs.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had said in a March 6 press conference that the Anil Ambani Group, Essel, ILFS, DHFL and Vodafone were among the stressed corporates Yes Bank had exposure to.

Officials said promoters of all the big companies who had taken large loans from the beleaguered bank which later turned bad are being summoned for questioning in the case to take investigation forward.

Ambani's statement will be recorded under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) upon deposition, they said.

Kapoor, 62, is at present in ED custody after he was arrested by the central probe agency early this month.

The ED has accused Kapoor, his family members and others of laundering "proceeds of crime" worth Rs 4,300 crore by receiving alleged kickbacks in lieu of extending big loans through their bank that later turned NPA.
