Bengaluru, Sept 6: Strongly condemning the brutal killing of activist-journalist Gauri Lankesh, Karnataka Komu Souharda Vedike (KKSV), a forum for promotion of communal amity in the state, has urged the government to declare it as an act of terrorism.
In a statement issue here KKSV, of which Gauri was a founding member, also demanded a judiciary probe into the killing that accord within a week after the second anniversary of the murder of rationalist M M Kalburgi, who also had earned the wrath of saffron extremists.
“Gauri Lankesh murder was worryingly similar to Govind Pansare, Narendra Dabholkar and Kalburgi killings. The investigation agencies have failed to crack these cases so far. These killings are part of a greater conspiracy in the society,” the statement said adding that the government should treat these murders as acts of terrorism and take necessary measures to nab the culprits.
‘Gauri was like my daughter’
Meanwhile, Sara Aboobacker, a senior Kannada writer from Dakshina Kannada, who introduced to the literary world by Gauri’s father P Lankesh, said that the incident has instilled fear of life among thinkers.
“A sense of insecurity is getting ingrained in the minds of progressive writers. They are not being allowed to freely express their thoughts,” she said.
“Gauri was as old as my younger son (fourth). She was like my daughter. The incident has really unnerved me,” said an emotional Ms. Aboobacker, who shared a good bonding with Gauri.
