Decomposed body of missing woman found stuffed in trolley bag

Burdwan(WB), Feb 16: The decomposed body of a woman customer care operator was found stuffed in a trolley bag at an apartment of a banker couple in Durgapur following which the man and his wife were arrested, police said on Friday.

The deceased, identified as Shilpa Agarwal, used to operate a "sahayak kendra" of a nationalised bank from her house at Mejia in Bankura district, the police said.

The arrested man, Rajiv Kumar was the manager of the same branch, the police said.

Shilpa had told her family that she was going to visit her aunt's house at Asansol in West Burdwan district on Friday.

She was missing since Saturday and her family had lodged a complaint with the police.

The police said they had received a complaint about stench emanating from the trolley bag kept in the store area of the apartment.

On opening the bag, they found Shilpa's decomposed body, cut into pieces.

Her family claimed that Kumar had committed the crime as Shilpa had been demanding that he return the Rs 1 lakh which he had taken from her.

Jun 5: The fear of contracting COVID-19 infection allegedly forced a 65-year-old man to commit suicide in Maharashtra's Beed district, police said on Friday.

The incident occurred at Mangewadi in Patoda on Thursday, when a passerby found the body of Asaram Pote hanging from a tree in his farm, an official said.

The police were immediately alerted and Pote's body was brought down in the presence of his relatives and locals, he said.

A suicide note was found on the deceased's person, in which he said that he had taken the extreme step as he was scared of contracting COVID-19 infection and no one should be held responsible for his death, the official said.

A case of accidental death was registered in this regard and further probe was underway, he added.

Kochi, Jun 22: A 54-day-old baby suffered brain damage after she was allegedly slapped and thrown on a cot at home by his father in Angamaly municipality of Ernakulam district, police said.

Doctor Sojan Ipe of MOSC Medical College Hospital at Kolenchery said that the damage caused to the brain is serious. The child was admitted with bleeding in the brain on Friday.

On Saturday, 40-year-old pastor Shaiju Thomas, who is the child's father was arrested by the Angamaly police in connection with the incident. He is currently lodged at the Covid first-line treatment centre at Angamaly.

Shaiju has been charged with IPC Section 307 (attempt to murder) and under the Juvenile Justice Act.

According to Angamaly Police, ''the accused was always doubtful of his wife and raised questions over the parenthood of the child. He had slapped the child on multiple occasions. She fell unconscious on Thursday night after a similar attack and was taken to the hospital. We have so far received enough evidence against the accused.''

The owner of the spa is absconding and the manager has been arrested.
