Mangalore, March 2: Billava Samskrutika Sourabha , a book on Billavas, a predominant sect in the coastal region, was released here on Thursday. The book is the research work of M. Dejappa Dallodi.

Releasing the book, M. Mohan Alva, the Chairman of Alvas Shikshana Pratistana, said the book gives a complete picture of the Billava's contribution to the region. It speaks about Daiva and Devaradhana, which the Billavas are known for. The book also speaks about Billava's role in preserving the vedic traditions in the region.

Critic and writer M. Prabhakar Joshi said the book was an example as to how a thesis can be written in a simple way. With his painstaking research of 12 years, Mr. Dallodi has been able to give an anthropological and social perspective to his work. “I wish more members of the community could have been present in large numbers on this momentous occasion,” he said.

Ganesh Amin Sankamar, Lecturer from St. Aloysius College, said the book gives a true picture of the community and truly reflects the culture and ethos of Tulu Nadu. It answers all questions about Tulu culture and traditions, he added.

Writer Aerya Laxminaraya Alva, retired teacher Malpe Raghavendra and photographer Nobert Crasta were felicitated. Registrar of Mangalore University K. Channappagowda participated.
