New Delhi, Dec 8: The Delhi government on Friday cancelled the licence of Max Hospital in Shalimar Bagh with immediate effect. The decision comes eight days after one of the premature twins declared dead by the hospital was found alive while being taken for the last rites. The infant, however, died on Wednesday.
The patients already admitted in the hospital won't be affected by the decision, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain said at a press conference.
Three notices issued
The government would not tolerate “criminal negligence," he said. “Max Hospital is a habitual offender and three notices were served earlier to it. And, it has been found guilty in those cases too. The action taken on it is in continuation of effect of previous notices.”
The notices were issued for lapses involving the EWS (extremely weaker section) quota patients.
On December1, the government ordered an inquiry into the twins incident. A three-member inquiry team, in a preliminary report, held the hospital guilty of not following prescribed norms in dealing with newborns. The doctors failed to conduct the electrocardiography (ECG) tracing before declaring the babies dead, the report filed on Tuesday said.
The hospital terminated the services of Dr. A.P. Mehta and Dr. Vishal Gupta in connection with the case.
