Denied permission to marry Facebook friend, Delhi man kills parents

New Delhi, May 23: A 26-year-old man allegedly killed his parents, after they denied him permission to marry a woman who he befriended on Facebook, in southeast Delhi's Jamia Nagar, the police said on Tuesday.

Abdul Rehman, the only son of his parents, killed them to take possession of their property. He was in a relationship with a woman from Kanpur. They became friends on Facebook two years ago, the police said.

Rehman's first marriage had ended in a divorce. Later, he became friends with the woman from Kanpur. In 2017, he married another woman, conceding to the wishes of his parents.

However, his extra-marital affair continued. He would meet his Facebook friend regularly and even promised to marry her, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Chinmoy Biswal said.

Rehman told his parents that he wanted to marry his Facebook friend, but they objected to it.

The accused worked at a call centre, but he lost his job due to drug addiction. He hatched a conspiracy to kill his parents and roped in two acquaintances -- Nadeem Khan and Guddu, Biswal said. Rehman promised them Rs 2.5 lakh for the task.

On the day of the incident, Rehman called Khan and Guddu to his residence. The trio attacked the couple while they were asleep.

Guddu caught hold of Taslim Bano (50) and Khan grabbed Shamim Ahmed (55). Rehman smothered them to death using their bedsheet and blanket, the DCP said. The bodies were found on the first floor of the house on April 28.

The autopsies were conducted at AIIMS. The post-mortem report said that they died of “asphyxia due to smothering”. Subsequently, a case was registered. During questioning on May 21, Rehman admitted to killing his parents. He and his accomplices were arrested later.

Five Bajrang Dal activists have been arrested for allegedly indulging in vandalism in the city on Valentines Day, police said.

They said about 10 to 15 activists on two wheelers vandalised a shop in Kattupalli area in Hyderabad on February 14.

They held aloft flags and raised slogans against celebration of Valentines Day and "created havoc" at different malls, a police press release said.

On receiving information, police rushed to a mall, but the Bajrang Dal activists escaped from the spot.

Five of them were later identified with the help of CCTV footage and arrested, police said.

The others too have been identified and efforts were on to nab them, police said.

Two cases have been registered against them under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code on a complaint from shop owners, the release said.

Thiruvananthapuram, Jul 22:An accused in a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act jumped into the sea on Wednesday morning when he was taken for evidence collection at Kasaba in Kasargode district, police said.

Accused Mahesh was arrested following a complaint by his neighbour on Tuesday evening.

The police said that they took the accused to the seashore to collect evidence in the case when Mahesh jumped into the sea. Two police officials too jumped in after him to catch hold of him but could not locate Mahesh.

Later, swimmers were deployed to try and locate the missing man.

Kota (Rajasthan), Jun 6: A 14-year-old boy allegedly hanged himself to death on early Saturday morning shortly after he stopped playing PUBG throughout the night and went to sleep, said police. 

Railway Colony police station’s in-charge Hansraj Meena said the boy, a class 9 student and son of an Army man, was found hanging from the grill of the ventilator in his bedroom on early Saturday morning. 

Meena said according to the boy’s family members, the boy had downloaded the gaming programme on his mother’s mobile phone only three days back but had been playing the game virtually continuously for the last three days. 

He kept on playing the game till 3 am in a room in which his brother was studying, said Meena, adding the boy went to adjoining to sleep after that. His body was found hanging from the ventilator’s grill in the morning, he said, adding the boy was rushed to MBS Hospital, where he was declared “brought dead”. 

No suicide note was recovered in the case, the SHO said. The boy lived in Gandhi Colony in the city along with his mother and brother, while his father, a Tamil Nadu native and Army man, is currently posted in Arunachal Pradesh. The boy’s body has been kept in hospital’s morgue for the postmortem, the SHO said.
