Bengaluru, Mar 27: Days after his two sons – H D Revanna and H D Kumaraswamy – lashed out at AICC president Rahul Gandhi for terming JD(S) as the “B-team of the BJP”, the party supremo H D Deve Gowda on Monday launched a direct attack on him and issued a him a warning against testing his patience

Addressing reporters, 84-year-old former prime minister called Rahul immature and accused his party of being “pseudo-secular and making compromises for remaining in power”. He reiterated that his party would sit in the Opposition in case of a fractured mandate.

Cautioning Rahul to be "careful," Gowda asked the Congress leader not to test his patience, that he would no more tolerate his "irresponsible" statements. He took a swipe at Rahul for his dependence on a "chit" for attacking the JD(S).

"Rahul has charged that JD(S) is BJP's 'B' team - he has compared JD(S) to the Sangh Parivar. He has even asked the JD(S) to come clean on its secular credentials - whether my party is supporting the BJP. You want to question my credentials young man, when you are not even aware of the events of the past? You need to first understand which Congress is there in Karnataka - Indira Gandhi Congress, Sonia Gandhi Congress or Siddaramaiah Congress. If you have the maturity, you will understand these realities. You will not be making accusations against the JD(S) by reading out speeches, written by somebody else, from a chit of paper," he said.

Dubbing the Congress as an opportunist party, Gowda said he had faced betrayal by it. He said that he had endorsed Sonia Gandhi to the prime minister's post at a time when the opposition had branded her as an outsider.

"The least she could do was to be grateful to me. But her party ungraciously withdrew support when I was the prime minister. Why did they withdraw support? I had no corruption charges against me - unlike Siddaramaiah, who is facing a flurry of corruption charges," he said.

He said that the JD(S) would not forge ties with either the BJP or the Congress. If his party fails to get a majority in the elections, it was "happy" to sit in the opposition benches, he added.

Bengaluru, Jun 26: All efforts would be made to control the spread of coronavirus in the city and there will be no fresh lockdown, Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Friday said, asserting that improving economic situation of the state is also equally important.

Though the state capital was considered a model for the entire country in COVID management and has seen a spike in cases during the last few days, the pandemic can be controlled if everyone cooperated, he said.

His remarks come a day after Revenue Minister R Ashoka said Bengaluru is still 'safe' compared to the COVID-19 situation in other cities and states and had ruled out a fresh lockdown for now, putting to rest speculations that it was planning such a move in view of spike in cases.

As of Thursday evening, a total of 1,791 COVID-19 cases, including 78 deaths and 505 discharges, had been reported in the city while the state's tally stood at 10,560 compared to just 3,408 cases as on June 1. The state capital has the highest number of cases among the districts.

"There is no question of imposing lockdown for any reason. In some areas (with high case load) we have already implemented lockdown, other than those places there is no question of it being implemented in other places," Yediyurappa told reporters here.

Improving the economic situation of the state was also equally important, he said ahead of his meeting with Ministers, MLAs and MPs of all parties from Bengaluru to discuss measures to control COVID-19.

"I will discuss with all MLAs including those from opposition and Ministers from Bengaluru and come to some decision. With their cooperation we will make all honest efforts to control the pandemic in Bengaluru," he added.

Earlier, there had been intense speculation after some ministers said the government may have to consider re-imposing the lockdown, eased in phases from the middle of last month, in view of continuing spike in new cases in the past several days. Bengaluru was a "model" to the entire country in COVID management, but in recent days cases have increased, Yediyurappa said, adding to control it cooperation from everyone was necessary.

"I have confidence that if everyone (MLAs) pays special attention in their respective assembly constituency, COVID can be controlled," he said. Meanwhile, official sources said the Chief Minister has given Revenue Minister Ashoka the charge of overseeing the COVID management in the city.

Bengaluru, Mar 5: Amulya Leona, the 19-year-old woman who captured a nation’s attention by shouting full-throated slogans, allegedly in support of Pakistan, at a rally in Bengaluru, has reportedly held her composure under grilling by the Special Investigating Team (SIT).

The woman was arrested after her speech to an audience of protesters against the Citizenship Amendment Act on February 19, and was slapped with sedition charges.

Sources in the police said Amulya Leona seemed to be absolutely normal during interrogation by senior cops, unlike most other persons in such circumstances.

Not once throughout the grilling nor in judicial custody did she break down.

Amulya is said to have defended herself on charges that she shouted pro-Pakistan slogans. She made it clear that by speaking out at the rally at Freedom House, she did not mean to support the enemy country and that she was not against India.

Lower-rung officers said Amulya Leona seemed to be considerably influenced by the late firebrand activist Gowri Lankesh, who was shot dead in 2017.

In fact, the policewomen to whose charge she was entrusted right after she was arrested are said to have heaved a sigh of relief when she handed over to custody of prison staff.

An urban legend going around in lower-rung police circles is that Amulya Leona attended the funeral of Gowri Lankesh and fainted near where the late activist was buried. “It’s impossible for a 19-year-old to show such grit. We have seen hardcore criminals breaking down in custody. Forget about breaking down, Amulya Leona is becoming stronger,” they explain.
