Development of tourism sector vital for progress of DK, Udupi'

Udupi, Apr 5: The development of the tourism sector not only has a huge potential but is also best suited for the progress of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts, according to Udupi Deputy Commissioner R Vishal.

tourimsSpeaking after inaugurating the workshop on “Development and Human Development in Coastal districts” organized by the Justice K.S. Hegde Institute of Management, here, he Dr Vishal said tourism generated employment and posed minimum harm to environment.

“It is essential to improve connectivity in both these districts (DK and Udupi) to promote tourism. This means the Shiradi Ghat road has to be developed properly and the national highways have to be improved. The existing relaxations in the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) norms should be leveraged without any harm to the environment. The CRZ norms have to be scientifically implemented.

It is necessary to work on tourism packages as these districts have pristine beaches and famous temples. A tourist wants not only to visit temples but also to have some enjoyment. Hence, beaches such as Marvanthe, Trasi, Malpe, Kaup, Padubidri, were being developed in Udupi district.

Good beaches are real revenue generators. The district administration has taken various steps to keep Malpe beach clean. As a result, the revenue generated at the Malpe beach has gone up from Rs. 7 lakh to 10 lakh annualy to Rs. 1.12 crore annually in just a year. “Giving people better economic opportunities is essential,” he said.

Giving importance to tourism is essential as both Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts are a remittance economy. The credit-deposit ratio of the banks is one of the lowest in the State because of remittance economy. The administration is making all efforts to bring senior citizens and children under the Aadhaar cover. This will help in providing direct cash benefits to the beneficiaries of various social welfare schemes, Dr. Vishal said.

Tourism is one of those sectors that needs attention from not only the Government, but also the citizens of the nation.
Lack of civic sense is prevalent among our masses. Although some responsible citizens are doing a good job cleaning places, the Government should also be strict and impose heavy penalties for littering.

Shivamogga, Aug 5: Karnataka Minister KS Eshwarappa on Wednesday hailed the laying of foundation stone (bhoomi pujan) for a grand Ram temple in Ayodhya and said "Kashi Vishwanath and "Krishna Janmasthan temples have to be liberated".

"It is a good day that the foundation stone for Ram Temple has been laid. A beautiful temple will come up, but there are Kashi Vishwanath and Krishna Janmasthan temples which have to be liberated," Eshwarappa said.

The minister said that there is a "sign of slavery" at Krishna temple in Mathura and Kashi Vishwanath temple in Varanasi.

"The whole nation is dreaming of Shri Krishna temple in Mathura and Kashi Vishwanath temple. I have visited the two temples. 

There is a sign of slavery. Mosques are there at holy places. When I visited the place at Mathura, I witnessed the wall. When we look at the wall, we feel like we are still slaves," he said.

"While visiting Kashi, there is also a structure of slavery. Dream of Hindus is fulfilled in Ayodhya. One day, it will be fulfilled in Mathura and Kashi. Mathura Sri Krishna and Kashi Vishwanath will be freed and temple will be built," Eshwarappa added.

The Places of Worship Act, enacted in 1991, says that religious character of a place of worship existing on the August 15, 1947 shall continue to be the same as it existed on that day. The Act kept Ayodhya case out of its purview.

Udupi, Jun 28: The Padubidri police have booked cases against two patients of Novel Coronavirus for not revealing their primary contacts and hiding their travel history.

According to DHO Sudhirchandra Sooda, two siblings from Hejamadi in Padubidri had tested positive for COVID-19 recently. After shifting to the hospital, when the officials asked them about their primary contacts and travel history, the patients furnished false information.

When the officials collected information from various sources, they realised that the duo had travelled to Bantwal, Kasargod, Ullal and other places in Dakshina Kannada, said Dr Sooda. Hence, the district administration decided to file cases against them, he added.

Bengaluru, May 28: The Karnataka government has done away with previously mandatory COVID-19 testing for asymptomatic international travellers. 

The development comes a day after the government issued a circular, which allowed placing of international travellers into home quarantine if they had completed seven days of institutional quarantine.

A circular signed by Jawaid Akhtar, Additional Chief Secretary to the State Government, dated May 27, says that any “person who has completed seven days of institutional quarantine and is asymptomatic can be permitted for home quarantine with a COVID-19 test (RT-PCR), subject to undergoing a medical check-up.”

This check-up equates to thermal screening (with a required temperature of under 37.5C or 99.5F and pulse oximetry of under 94%). 

The circular added that all elderly people, over the age of 60, and those with comorbidities (such as Diabetes mellitus, hypertension, asthma, heart ailment, renal disease...etc) are “required to be clinically evaluated diligently prior to shifting them for quarantine.”

On Wednesday, Pankaj Pandey, Commissioner, the Department of Health and Family Welfare said that these new guidelines were based on recommendations from the COVID Task Force. A member of the COVID Task Force said that new strategies had been formulated based on the latest findings on how the SARS-Cov-2 virus affects people.
