Dharma Sansad is beyond politics; only concerned with Hindu society: Togadia

Udupi, Nov 23: The three-day ‘Dharma Sansad’ being organized in Udupi has nothing to do with the Assembly elections in Karnataka scheduled for next year, according to Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) International Working President Praveen Togadia.

Responding to the queries of media persons here on Thursday, Mr. Togadia said: “We are only concerned with the interests of Hindu society.”

On attempts being reportedly made to keep Lingayats out of the Hindu fold, Mr. Togadia said: We believe in all the castes and traditions. We are all brothers. No one can separate one brother from another brother.”

Mr. Togadia said that the three-day event will discuss issues such as ‘Untouchability-free India,’ cow protection and a central law to protect cows, immediate construction of Ram Temple and stopping of government control of Hindu temples and mutts.

These issues discussed and the action plan would be in the form of proposals. “The ‘sants’ would decide on resolutions of the Dharma Sansad. The Dharma Sansad will give socio-cultural direction to the Hindu community. It is not for political direction,” Mr. Togadia added.

Earlier, responding to queries of media persons on his arrival at Mangaluru International Airport, the hardline leader said that the Hindi film Padmavati should be banned.

12 from Karnataka, who attended Tablighi Jamaat conference, test negative for COVID-19

Bengaluru, Apr 1: As many as 12 of the 40 identified people from Karnataka, who attended Tablighi congregation in Nizamuddin, Delhi, have tested negative for COVID-19, state Health Minister B Sriramulu said in a tweet on Wednesday.

It is also learnt that 62 foreigners from Indonesia and Malaysia, who attended the congregation, have visited the State and 12 of them have been quarantined, the tweet said.

''The health department, in association with the Home department, has jointly started the process of identifying all the 300 who attended the event,'' he said.

CM holds meeting with Opposition over COVID-19 situation in Karnataka

Bengaluru, May 8: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Friday held a meeting with opposition parties at his office here over COVID-19 situation in the state.

Former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Congress leaders SR Patil and DK Shivakumar participated in the meeting. From Janata Dal (Secular), former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy and HD Revanna were present.

"Congress legislative party leader Siddaramaiah and DK Shivkumar have arranged the Chief Minister to request the central government to announce a special package of Rs 50,000 crore to Karnataka to fight coronavirus and also special packages requested for small and medium scale industries," said Siddaramaiah's media secretary.

Meanwhile, Yediyurappa has announced a special package for those involved in leather works, especially those who work on the roadside.

The special package has been announced for cobblers and leather workers, who work on the roadside.

Will conduct CET exams as per HC order: Karnataka deputy CM

Bengaluru, Jul 29: State officials will conduct Common Entrance Test (CET) exam as per the instructions given by the state high court, said Karnataka deputy chief minister CN Ashwathnarayan on Tuesday.

"Officials have informed that they are all set to conduct exams on July 30 and 31. We will put this matter in front of the high court. As per the instructions of the high court, we will move forward," said Ashwathnarayan.

This comes after Karnataka High court asked the state government to reconsider the decision of conducting the CET exam.

"...I had called an emergency meeting with district collectors, officials of education, transport, health, police department. And, I took information about the preparedness for conducting the CET exam," he added.

Karnataka CET Exam is a state-level entrance exam organised for providing admissions in Engineering, Pharmacy, B Pharma and other courses offered by colleges and institutions located in the state.
