Bengaluru, Oct 14: Urban Development Minister R Roshan Baig’s controversial speech, which went viral on social media, has provided a fresh opportunity for BJP and JD(S) to target chief minister Siddaramaiah led government thanks to his outburst against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in broken Tamil. Both the opposition parties have urged the CM to dismiss the minister.

The controversial speech was delivered by Baig on October 3 in front of a crowd at Shivajinagar which falls under his assembly constituency. In the 2-minute-43-second edited video, Baig is heard saying, “He (Modi) banned Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes and the people who voted for him are now abusing him as...(he mentions an abuse word used by people). Now, they (Modi’s supporters) are telling, ‘kamal k phool, hamari bhool’. It is not the Congress that blaming him, but Marwaris and Gujaratis."

Speaking to coastaldigest.com Baig said he neither abused PM Modi nor intended to hurt anyone.  According to him his lack of proficiency in Tamil might have forced him to use some inappropriate words.

“Using abusive words is not my culture. I respect all human beings and people have made me MLA for six times. My thooti-phooti Tamil might have caused some problem,” he said, adding that that he would apologize if he had hurt anyone's sentiments unknowingly.

He also said that Modi is prime minister for the entire country and not just for BJP. “He is my PM too. I did not abuse him. I just quoted what the helpless people, his supporters and traders were saying after demonetisation and GST,” he clarified.
