Didn't raise asset naming issue to gain favour: Rishi Kapoor

June 26, 2016

New Delhi, Jun 26: Actor Rishi Kapoor, who had kicked up a storm by criticising the practice of naming the major assets of the country after Gandhi-Nehru family, has claimed he did not rake up the issue to gain political favours from the Modi government.

RishiThe 63-year-old actor, in a series of tweets, had criticised the Congress party for naming public assets after Gandhi-Nehru family members.

"I have no aspirations to become a politician, nor did I say this to please the ruling party. I was neither trying to impress anybody, nor do I seek Padma award or Rajya Sabha membership," Kapoor said, while replying to Rajat Sharma on India TV show "Aap Ki Adalat".

The actor said he respected the Gandhi-Nehru family but was not in the favour of naming national assets after a single family.

"Don't we have eminent people who built cities and our great country. The Kapoor family has been a supporter of Congress every time, but the issue is that sycophants in the party are trying to name all public assets to please the family," he said, adding Delhi alone had 64 assets that were named after the Gandhi-Nehru family.

When asked about his recent praise of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Kapoor said, "I feel whatever Modiji is saying is correct. My only request to him is that he should fulfill his promises soon. I am patiently waiting and I am hopeful he would definitely fulfill."

The actor was trolled on Twitter after his comments with some people calling him a "Modi-bhakt' but Kapoor said he is fine with the moniker.

"Yes, I am a Bhakt (worshiper), but a Bhakt of God. I do not know what connotation this word has nowadays, but yes, if so be it, yes I am."

The actor was also all praise for HRD Minister Smriti Irani for her "emotional and courageous speeches".

When asked about not getting a Padma award during the Congress regime, Kapoor said only people with close connections in Delhi are awarded.

"Yes, I learnt this after working for 44 years. Now even the age of getting an award is over. But my regret is that even Shammi Kapoor was not honoured. It's sad. In our government, a person is awarded only if one has a pull in Delhi. They don't give awards to deserving person," Kapoor said.

The episode featuring Rishi Kapoor will be telecast tonight at 10pm on India TV and a repeat telecast scheduled for tomorrow at 10am and 10pm.

Mumbai, Jun 16: The International Space University (ISU) in France has paid homage to Sushant Singh Rajput in a statement, saying the news of the actor's death was "deeply saddening".

Rajput was found dead in his Bandra apartment on Sunday.

According to an official, Mumbai Police found out during the probe that the 34-year-old actor was under medication for depression.

The official Twitter handle of ISU on Monday tweeted how Rajput was supposed to visit the campus last year but was unable to due to scheduling conflict.

"We are deeply saddened by the dramatic news on the death of well known Indian actor Sushant Singh Rajput. Mr Singh Rajput was a believer and strong supporter of STEM education and was following ISU on social media.

"He had even accepted an invitation to visit ISU's Central Campus in the summer of 2019 but other agenda priorities prevented him from travelling to Strasbourg," the statement by the university read.

ISU paid condolences to Rajput's family and friends, saying the actor's memory will "remain among his thousands of followers across India and all over the world".

Rajput had enrolled at Delhi Technical University (DTU) in 2003, which was then known as Delhi College of Engineering, but left the course to pursue his showbiz dreams.

Even after leaving the four-year degree course, he remained fascinated with science and had a deep interest in astronomy.

As part of his research for the film "Chanda Mama Door Ke", he also visited the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in 2017.

Rajput had stayed in NASA to train for his role as an astronaut for the film, which was eventually shelved.

The actor also owned Meade 14" LX600 telescope.

Indore, Jun 6: An FIR has been registered against television producer Ekta Kapoor and two others here in Madhya Pradesh on charges of spreading obscenity, hurting religious feelings, and improper use of national emblems in her web show 'Triple X season 2', police said on Saturday.

The FIR also mentions about a particular scene which allegedly portrays the Indian Army's uniform in a highly objectionable way, an officer said.

Besides Kapoor, the FIR names director of the web series Pankhudi Rodrigues and screenwriter Jessica Khurana, said Annapurna police station inspector Satish Kumar Dwivedi.

The complaint was lodged on Friday night by Valmik Sakaragaye and Neeraj Yagnik, both residents of Indore.

"Ekta Kapoor's OTT platform ALTBalaji streamed (erotic) web series 'Triple X season 2' which not only spread obscenity but also hurt religious feelings of a particular community," Dwivedi said quoting the complaint.

A scene in the web show portrayed the Indian Army's uniform in a highly objectionable manner and also disrespected the national emblems, he said.

Kapoor and others have been booked under sections 294 (obscene acts and songs) and 298 (Uttering, words, etc., with deliberate intent to wound the religious feelings of any person) of the Indian Penal Code, Information Technology (IT) Act, and the State Emblem of India (Prohibition of Improper Use) Act, 2005, Dwivedi said.

Mumbai-based Ekta Kapoor is the founder of ALTBalaji, which is owned by her production house, Balaji Telefilms.

Further investigation is underway, the police officer said.
