DIG D Roopa awarded President’s Medal

New Delhi, Sep 16: Karnataka Police, DIG D Roopa who claimed in a report of bribes being taken by top police officials for alleged  preferential treatment to AIADMK leader VK Sasikala in Bengaluru jail, was awarded the President’s Medal for meritorious service on Saturday.

In a function held at Raj Bhawan in Bengaluru, Governor Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala awarded the President’s medal to the top cop in the state. Previously, she was awarded with the President’s Police Medal in 2016. Roopa was DIG (Prisons) when she made the allegations in a report submitted to Home Department and Director General of Police for Prison Department H N Sathyanarayan Rao, in which she claimed that certain prisoners, including Sasikala, were being given preferential treatment in Benagaluru prison.

In her complaint, Roopa had alleged that the AIADMK leader was being provided with exclusive kitchen in violation of prison rules. Just few days after Roopa filed the complaint, she was transferred to the post of DIG, Commissioner for Traffic and Road Safety, Bengaluru as Chief Minister  Siddaramaiah ordered a probe into her allegations. Sasikala is serving her time in the Bengaluru prison after being convicted in disproportionate assets case.

The government later dismissed her claims saying, “There is no truth in reports suggesting that Sasikala and (her relative) Elavarasi have been given preferential treatment at the prison.” The government also issued notices in her name for violating the service rules and going public over allegations against other senior officials.

Bengaluru, May 12: People returning to Karnataka from other states will have to remain in quarantine">institutional quarantine even if they are asymptomatic, according to Department of Health and Family Welfare Services, Government of Karnataka

"All persons returning to Karnataka from any State, symptomatic or asymptomatic shall be kept in quarantine">institutional quarantine," read an order issued by the State Health and Family Welfare Services.

It further read, "For persons claiming to come from Goa, Deputy Commissioner of receiving district should verify and in the event of adequate capacity not being available, can put them in home quarantine for a period of 14 days, if the claim regarding the origin state is confirmed."

"Deputy Commissioner/Special Commissioner, BBMP will fix the rates for hotels where such returnees will be staying on a payment basis," the statement read.

Bengaluru Jul 29: There will be a centralised system in place in Karnataka to classify asymptomatic, symptomatic and mild symptomatic persons and recommend treatment based on the severity of the cases, said Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar on Tuesday here.

"Various existing apps related to COVID-19 will be brought under one platform to get real-time information which will assist in strategising allocation of hospitals/beds to the needy. This will probably remove the delay in bed allocation and treatment which is being faced now. The patients will get all information in one phone call," Dr Sudhakar said.

Sudhakar spoke with a team of experts from the government and Infosys.

Referring to a company by name Step 1, which is providing such services in Delhi and Madhya Pradesh, the Minister said that a similar system will be implemented in the state as well.

"This company is having a team of doctors and nurses which is guiding the people whether they need hospital treatment or home isolation after they are tested positive for COVID-19. More than 70 per cent of the positive cases are being asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic and are advised to go for home isolation," the minister said.

"The load on the hospitals is reduced and severe cases can be administered proper treatment. Infosys co-ordinates with the government to provide technical support for this system," Dr Sudhakar added.

Earlier during the day, the minister held a video conference with the heads of private medical colleges to review COVID preparedness.
The government has already passed guidelines to allocate 50 per cent of hospital beds for COVID patients.

Belagavi, Jan 17: Maharashtra Minister of State for Public Health, Medical Education, FDA and Textiles Rajendra Patil-Yadravkar who had come here to participate in the martyrs day programme of Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti (MES) was detained by the police and escorted back till the state borders on Friday.

MES had organised its annual martyrs day programme at Hutatma Circle here. Its leaders had earlier been asked by the District Administration and City Police to ensure that none of the political leaders from Maharashtra participate and create law and order problems by their anti-state statements.

Patil had managed to sneak into the city through a route which was not manned by the police. He came in an auto-rickshaw to the programme venue.

Police personnel present for security took him into their custody and later escorted him till the state’s borders with Maharashtra at Kognoli on the Pune-Bengaluru national highway.

MES leaders alleged that the police personnel violated protocol while taking the incumbent minister into their custody and they also roughed him up.

All vehicles entering the city from different routes and particularly from Maharashtra were screened to confirm that political leaders from the neighbouring state do not participate in the martyrs day programme and create problems by their statements that also affect law and order along with linguistic harmony.

It was not known if Patil had landed in the city on Thursday and managed to reach the programme venue without getting noticed by using an auto-rickshaw.
