Bengaluru, Feb 24: Following directions from the Union ministry of home affairs (MHA), Karnataka has appointed deputy inspector general of police (intelligence) A Subramanyeswara Rao as the nodal officer to prevent attacks on Kashmiris in the state.
The letter written by Beeria Yadav, director of MHA, said there are reports of incidents of assault and harassment against Jammu and Kashmir residents in some parts of the country in the aftermath of the Pulwama terror attack on February 14.
The nodal officers appointed by the states and Union territories are tasked with taking necessary steps to prevent acts of violence, discrimination and other coercive acts against Kashmiris, including students and other minorities, as per a recent Supreme Court order.
Wrong phone number
Then odal officer was also asked to publicise the emergency phone numbers to help citizens. However, one of the contact numbers mentioned on the MHA list is wrong and none of them responded, when TOI reached out. Rao was unavailable for comment.
