Digvijaya Singh hints at George's re-induction into Cabinet

Hyderabad, Sep 21: The Congress leadership believes there was not “enough reason” for former Karnataka Minister K J George to resign, senior party leader Digvijaya Singh said on Tuesday, hinting at his (George's) likely return to the Siddaramaiah Cabinet.

“As far as we are concerned, merely a complaint or statement by a person who commits suicide is not enough reason for anyone to resign,” the party general secretary in charge of Karnataka affairs said here.

Singh was asked if the Congress leadership has approved the reinstatement of George in the wake of Karnataka CID, earlier this month, giving a clean chit to him and two senior police officers in connection with the suicide of DySP M K Ganapathi. “There was no reason for him (George) to resign in the first place, but on his personal thing he resigned. As far as the high command is concerned, there is nothing against George,” he said.

Asked if the Party high command had given green signal for the re-entry of George, Singh said, “That is for the chief minister to decide. It is the prerogative of the chief minister.

We do not interfere in these matters.” George had resigned on July 18, after a court directed the police to register an FIR against him and two police officers in connection with the matter. On the criticism in some quarters that Siddaramaiah did not handle the situation well on September 12, when Bengaluru witnessed large-scale violence over the Cauvery water-sharing row with Tamil Nadu, Singh admitted that the government was “not very stringent” that day.

“The agitation is by farmers. No government, when it's a sensitive issue of water, can be seen to be aggressively taking action against genuine demands of farmers. So, the Karnataka government was sort of not very stringent on the first day. So, some violence did happen. The second day onwards, it was controlled,” he said.

Better give him a party position and keep away from Ministry.

Madikeri, Apr 16: A man from Ketumotte in Virajpet, who was cured of COVID-19 and returned to his home, has again been admitted to the hospital, following a complaint of fever, on Wednesday noon.

The man, who voluntarily got admitted to the hospital, is being treated in the isolation ward of the Covid-19 hospital. His throat swab and blood samples have been sent for testing. The report is likely to be out by Thursday morning.

After getting discharged from the hospital on April 7, he was home quarantined. After a week, he developed fever again. The person has not moved out of his house and the people need not fear, said Deputy Commissioner Annies Kanmani Joy.

Bengaluru, May 28: The Karnataka government has done away with previously mandatory COVID-19 testing for asymptomatic international travellers. 

The development comes a day after the government issued a circular, which allowed placing of international travellers into home quarantine if they had completed seven days of institutional quarantine.

A circular signed by Jawaid Akhtar, Additional Chief Secretary to the State Government, dated May 27, says that any “person who has completed seven days of institutional quarantine and is asymptomatic can be permitted for home quarantine with a COVID-19 test (RT-PCR), subject to undergoing a medical check-up.”

This check-up equates to thermal screening (with a required temperature of under 37.5C or 99.5F and pulse oximetry of under 94%). 

The circular added that all elderly people, over the age of 60, and those with comorbidities (such as Diabetes mellitus, hypertension, asthma, heart ailment, renal disease...etc) are “required to be clinically evaluated diligently prior to shifting them for quarantine.”

On Wednesday, Pankaj Pandey, Commissioner, the Department of Health and Family Welfare said that these new guidelines were based on recommendations from the COVID Task Force. A member of the COVID Task Force said that new strategies had been formulated based on the latest findings on how the SARS-Cov-2 virus affects people.

Udupi, Jan 8: Senior journalist Raviraj Valalambe passed away due to suspected cardiac arrest on Tuesday night at his residence in Kinnimulki, here. He was 50.

Raviraj was rushed to a hospital after he complained of chest pain. He breathed his last on way to medical facility.

He was the director of Prime TV, a local Kannada news channel.

He had worked as a reporter for ETV and Suvarna News channel earlier.

He is survived by wife and two daughters.
