Dinesh Gundu Rao writes to PM regarding allocation of drought relief aid

Bengaluru, Feb 4: Alleging "step-motherly" treatment meted out to Karnataka, state congress chief Dinesh Gundu Rao on Sunday wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to allocate drought relief aid.

"I write you to address the step-motherly treatment meted out to the state of Karnataka with regards to the allocation of drought relief aid that the government of Karnataka had sought to compensate for the crop losses in drought-hit districts," Rao said in the letter.

"The Karnataka government sought drought relief aid of Rs 2,434 crore to compensate for the crop losses in drought-hit districts. Our government in Karnataka had declared 83 taluks in 23 districts as drought affected in the state during Kharif 2018 and an additional 14 taluks in 9 districts were also declared as severely drought affected. However, your government approved only Rs 949.49 crore aid as drought relief", he added.

Rao went on to add that the state government requires "an additional Rs 500-600 crore at a minimum estimate in central assistance to combat the drought crisis."

He requested Prime Minister Modi-led central government to "stop with the abysmal favouritism and continue to demand the release of funds that was requested."

Mangaluru, Jan 10: To mark the Karavali Utsav the district administration held a colourful procession from Nehru Maidan to Karavali Utsav Grounds Lalbagh here on Friday.

The colourful procession was inaugurated by the District Minister In-charge Kota Srinivas Poojary by lighting the traditional lamp along with other dignitaries. Various troupes from all over the state are participating in the procession from Nehru Maidan to the Karavali grounds.

Addressing the gathering Kota Srinivas Poojary said, “Karavali Utsav is a meaningful festival. The Tradition and culture of Dakshina Kannada is very meaningful. By organizing Utsav’s we are highlighting our tradition and Culture to national and international levels.

Mangaluru, Feb 8: A speeding car fell off the newly-inaugurated Pumpwell flyover in the city after jumping the median and ramming into an oncoming car today. 

At least four persons have suffered injuries in the mishap involving a Maruti Alto and a Renault Duster. The condition of two is said to be extremely critical. The other two have suffered minor injuries.

The accident took place when the driver of the speeding Alto which was heading towards Kasaragod from Udupi lost control over his vehicle.

Towards the end of the flyover, car rammed into the divider and then hit the ill-fated Renault Duster which was coming from the opposite direction. The Alto then fell off the bridge. 

The accident caused traffic jam on the highway for some time. The flyover was inaugurated a week ago, after a decade long wait.

Kalaburagi, Feb 27: Kalaburagi police has issued notice to AIMIM leader Waris Pathan to appear before the investigation officer to give his statement in connection to the controversial statement that he recently made during an anti-CAA rally.

"We have already served notice to appear and the date is 29th. He is supposed to give his statement. Some people have already recorded their statements," said Kalaburagi Police Commissioner MM Nagaraj.

Recently while addressing an anti-CAA rally in Kalaburagi, the AIMIM leader had said: "Time has now come for us to unite and achieve freedom. Remember we are 15 crores but can dominate over 100 crores."
