Mangaluru, Aug 31: Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner K G Jagadeesha has warned against illegal slaughtering and transportation of animals during Eid al-Adha (Bakrid).
Muslims in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi will celebrated the festival of sacrifice on September 1 while the Muslims in other parts of Karnataka will celebrate the same on September 2.
In a release issued here, the DC said those indulging in illegal slaughtering and transportation of animals will be punished.
While appealing people not to violate rules pertaining to slaughtering and transportation of animals during festival, the DC also warned those taking law into their hands in the name of animal protection.
"If anybody come across illegal transportation and slaughtering of animals, he or she should inform the police and not take law into their hands. Police will take strict action against such people," the DC warned.
He also directed police to make proper bandobast besides asking tahsildars conduct peace meetings in their respective taluks to ensure peaceful celebration of festival. "These measures are being taken to ensure peaceful celebration of festival,'' said DC.
On Tuesday, the DC had held a meeting to discuss about various preparations to be made ahead of festival which is on Friday in the district.
