Doctors advise HDK to cut poll tours, focus on health

Bengaluru, Jan 7: JD(S) state president H D Kumaraswamy has been forced to put off his ambitious grama vastavya (village stay) programme, following strict advice from doctors, who have asked him to slow down his pace of poll campaign.

Kumaraswamy, who underwent a second heart surgery September 2017, is still highly prone to chest infections.

In fact, soon after he undertook his first grama vastavya at Mugulavalli in Mudigere taluk of Chikkamagalur on November 7 last year, Kumaraswamy fell ill, which restricted him to his residence in Bengaluru for nearly 10 days after that.

After his surgery on September 23 last year, Kumaraswamy had announced that he would undertake grama vastavya in 50 Assembly constituencies by the end of December 2017. For this purpose, the party had even readied a Rs 1 crore, custom-made luxury bus - Karnataka Vikasa Vahini.

All set, he restarted his campaigning activities by launching the Kumara Parva Vikasa Yatre from Chamundeshwari constituency in Mysuru, which was followed by the village stay in Chikkamagaluru.

However, the long hours, travelling and over exertion took a toll on him.  Leading cardiologist and Kumaraswamy's family doctor Dr C N Manjunath told DH that he had categorically asked his brother-in-law to put a stop to the grama vastavya programme.

"I have advised him not to take up any more village stays. Though his heart is functioning normally, the minute he starts over exerting himself, he is developing infections. It's not that he is susceptible to infections all the time. But, everytime he is surrounded by large crowds who speak close to his ears and mouth, he is bound to develop an infection," Dr Manjunath said.

Kumaraswamy suffered extreme exhaustion during the grama vastavya because he left Mysuru late and reached Chikkamgalur at 3.30 am, following which he addressed a series of meetings, he added.

Sources said that upon hearing Kumaraswamy's prognosis, his father H D Deve Gowda is said to have advised him to cut short his statewide tours as much as possible.   But, Kumaraswamy is not paying much heed to the concerns aired. Though he spent a large part of December in Bengaluru, he is presently on a three-day tour in Belagavi and Bagalkot.

He is scheduled to return to Bengaluru on Sunday, following which he will be travelling to Mysuru, Mangaluru and Ramanagaram. Kumaraswamay's close associates however maintained  that  grama vastavya was not entirely off the agenda.

For people who want Rajakeeyada Gatthu (power of politics), and on top of it Duddina Vyamoha (love for money), does anything like age or personal health matter? Many times, they intentionally bring these insignificant matters to attention to garner sympathy votes.

It is better for kumaraswamy to put halt to his ambition of becoming CM again due to health restrictions since he would not be able to do justice to the tough job.

Bengaluru, Feb 1: The police have arrested two miscreants belonging to a saffron outfit after they threatened students in the city who were protesting the firing incident near Delhi’s Jamia Millia Islamia, telling them they would meet the same fate as the injured student.

Saffron extremist Gopal Sharma had opened fire at students protesting the Citizenship (Amendment) Act near the Delhi varsity on Thursday, injuring one.

The Bengaluru incident took place at Maurya Circle, where the nightlong demonstration against the Jamia firing and CAA began around 7.30pm. By 11pm, the number of protesters reduced to 30 but the group decided to stay back after getting the news of another alleged attack on women and Jamia students by Delhi police.

According to Adrian, a student who was at the scene, the small group of protesters stayed within a barricaded area on the road, chanting slogans, singing patriotic songs and playing music. “While we were raising anti-CAA slogans, two men from among us began shouting pro-CAA slogans. The duo was unknown and when we looked at them, they quietly moved away,” said Adrian, adding they were drunk and returned after a few minutes.

Saqib Idrees, another student protester, said the duo began to issue verbal threats. “They threatened us in Kannada that they would repeat the Jamia incident in Bengaluru,” said Saqib, adding the duo also taunted them saying ‘it’s not CAA down down, but you all will be brought down’.

When the students questioned the miscreants, cops stationed at the spot detained the duo. “Police were very cooperative. Almost 20 personnel were with us till 5am,” said Saqib.

Meanwhile, a friend of the duo watched the drama from a distance and approached the protesters to apologise on their behalf. “He said they belonged to the working class and FIRs would destroy their lives. He apologised to us and we decided to let the matter go. After all, we are Gandhians,” added Saqib.

Adrian said though the two men were drunk, their threats exposed their ideology. After the duo was detained, the students continued their protest till 5am and dispersed after singing the national anthem.

According to High Grounds police, the men are bank employees and were detained for disturbing the protesters at Maurya Junction. “They are from Andhra Pradesh and work in a PSU bank in the city. One of them is set to get married in February. He had thrown a party for his other friends for the same reason. The duo was drunk when confronted by the protesters. We booked a case of public nuisance and let them off after a warning,” police said.

Bengaluru, Jan 29: The Karnataka unit of BJP has urged the Centre and the State governments to ban the Popular Front of India (PFI) and the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), accusing them of harbouring terrorist tendencies.

Addressing a press meet, N Ravi Kumar, state general secretary of the party, alleged that there was a nexus between the Congress, the PFI and the SDPI.

“Recent reports have exposed the links between the PFI and the Congress,” he said, accusing Congress leader Kapil Sibal of receiving huge funds from PFI to defend their cases in the Supreme Court.

He also accused the organisations as the ones responsible for the death of 23 Hindu activists in Karnataka. Such incidents have proven that both SDPI and PFI are dubious organisations, he said.

RSS is the most active and first ever terrorist organisation in India and it should be banned first.    There is no proof of terrorist activities by SDPI and PFI.    BJP is afraid of these organisations as they give tought resistance to BJP and this is the reason why its planning to ban these organisations.    BJP is doing propoganda only.   Real thread for peace + harmoney in India by sanghis.   We should ban them first.
