Bengaluru, Mar 28: A speeding luxury car, driven by a 55-year-old doctor, rammed at least five vehicles over a stretch of 1 km and crashed into a house before coming to a halt in Jayanagar on Sunday. A two-wheeler rider was killed and four people were injured in the accident.benz

Around 2.15 pm, Dr Shankar N H (55), an Orthopaedician, was driving his high-end car. At Madhavan Park, he brushed past a car. Fearing repercussions, Shankar sped towards Byrasandra main road where his car rammed into a bike and two cars, injuring three people. Dr Shankar then sped ahead and rammed into Rizwan alias Ahmed Khan's (52) bike. The Benz came to a halt only after it ran into a roadside house, damaging it completely. Rizwan was killed on the spot, police said.

Swift action by the police saved orthopaedician Dr Shankar N H, who drove his Mercedes Benz car into three cars and two bikes, between Madhavan Park and Byrasandra in Jayanagar on Sunday afternoon, killing one and injuring three. The police secured Dr Shankar in the nick of time.

Lokesh Kumar, DCP (South), said that the police acted quickly and took away Dr Shankar from the spot and shifted him to a hospital, as he was bleeding from his ears. His domestic help Sarita and her child, who were also in the car, were taken to another hospital for treatment.

Around 20 policemen were sent to the spot to disperse the mob. If the police had reached the spot late even by a few minutes, the mob would have thrashed Dr Shankar and set his car on fire, the policemen told Deccan Herald.

The crowd turned a bit violent when Sarita re-appeared with her child at the scene for reasons unknown. A few of them pushed her, but the police took the woman and child to safety. Sarita told reporters that Dr Shankar had an epilepsy attack and lost control over the vehicle.

The airbags in the car saved the life of Shankar and Sarita. As soon as Shankar crashed his car into the house, the airbags opened up. Sampath Kumar, the owner of a grocery shop, said: “As I was coming from the Ashoka Pillar side, I noticed the driver of the Benz car driving in a reckless manner and thought that he would bang somewhere. When I reached Byrasandra, I noticed the damage.”

Almost a year ago, Shankar was booked under the Domestic Violence Act as his wife had approached the police, saying that he was harassing her for various reasons. The police had booked a case against him and even warned Shankar, said a senior police officer.

Family's fortuitous absence
The residents of the house in Byrasandra which was damaged were lucky that they were away when the accident happened.

Nagalakshmi, the owner of the house, said, “Our relatives Somashekar, his wife Rathnamma and their children reside in the house. On Sunday morning, they went to Mysuru as one of their relatives had delivered a baby. If they were in the house, the situation would have been different. Usually, Somashekar and his wife sell coconuts in front of the house and if they were present today, they may have been killed.”

Definitely imagine that which you said. Your favourite justification seemed to be at
the web the easiest thing to have in mind of. I say to you, I definitely get irked at the same time as other people consider concerns that they
just do not know about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top and outlined out the whole
thing without having side effect , other people could take a signal.

Will likely be back to get more. Thank you

Bengaluru, Feb 13: UK's Chancellor of the Exchequer Sajid Javid quit the Boris Johnson government as part of a cabinet reshuffle unfolding on Thursday and has been replaced by Rishi Sunak, reports said.

Indian-descent Sunak, 39, who is married to Akshata, the daughter of Infosys co-founder N.R. Narayana Murthy, was Chief Secretary to the Treasury since July 2019.

An analyst with Goldman Sachs before joining politics in 2014, Sunak, whose grandparents were from Punjab and emigrated to the UK from east Africa, is MP from Richmond (Yorkshire). He was Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Local Government in the Theresa May government.

Pakistani-descent Javid, who became the first Asian to become a Cabinet Minister when he was made Secretary of State of culture, Media and Sports in the David Cameron government in 2014 after stints as Economic Secretary to the Treasury (2012-13) and Financial Secretary (2013-14), was earlier the Home Secretary in the the Theresa May government.

He had then cleared absconding businessman Vijay Mallya's extradition to India in February last year following the decision by the Westminister Magistrates Court in December 2018.

Javid, who ran for Conservative Party leadership after May quit but lost to Boris Johnson, was made Chancellor by the later. In the reshuffle on Thursday, he was offered to retain his post if he fired all his advisors but declined and quit, the BBC reported.

Tumakuru, Jan 3: Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, who has drawn flak for the Centre releasing “inadequate” flood relief to the State, on Thursday asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for additional relief during his speech at a farmers’ convention in Tumakuru.

The Chief Minister even said, “I have brought this to the notice of the Prime Minister three or four times, but till now no additional relief has been sanctioned. I request him with folded hands to release it soon,” in Kannada. The Prime Minister, who spoke later at the event, however, did not respond to the Chief Minister’s request in his speech.

Mr. Yediyurappa said the State had witnessed losses to the tune of over ₹30,000 crore because of floods.

‘Stress on irrigation’

Addressing farmers at one of his main support bases of Tumakuru, the Lingayat strongman advised the Prime Minister that his dream of doubling farmers’ income by 2023 could become a reality only if he focused on “providing scientific price to farm produce, bringing water to farms through irrigation, and by interlinking rivers”.

Mr. Yediyurappa’s remarks made at a programme to release the fourth instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Yojana, a farm subsidy cash transfer scheme of the Union government, have raised eyebrows.

Stressing on the key role of irrigation schemes in farmers’ welfare, he sought a special package of ₹50,000 crore for completion of long-pending projects in Karnataka.

The five-minute-long speech is being seen as an attempt by the Chief Minister to assert himself within the party by publicly putting even the Prime Minister on the mat. This comes in the wake of the BJP suffering defeats in multiple States and the party’s victory in the recent bypolls in the State under Mr. Yediyurappa’s leadership, both of which have only strengthened the Chief Minister, sources in the party said. “We are curious as to how the party high command will now deal with this public assertion in front of the Prime Minister,” a senior party leader said.

The Chief Minister has been reportedly “deeply unhappy” over the delay in the flood relief by the Union government and also the “inadequate” amount released. The Opposition has attacked him over lack of adequate Central relief, which was interpreted as the BJP central leadership’s reported unhappiness with him. The Chief Minister had then said he was doing a “tightrope walk”.

After a delay of over two months, the Centre released ₹1,200 crore as flood relief in October 2019.
