Don’t change Syndicate members: ex-CM to HDK

Bengaluru, Jul 14: To pre-empt any such move, former chief minister Siddaramaiah has asked Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy not to remove Syndicate members at public universities, who were nominated by the previous Congress government.

“Our previous government has nominated academic experts from all categories as Syndicate/Executive Council members. You are requested not to change them and let them continue,” Siddaramaiah, also the Coalition Coordination and Monitoring Committee chairperson, wrote to Kumaraswamy in a letter dated July 7.

The Syndicate is the highest decision-making body at a university. The state government can nominate up to six “eminent educationists” to the Syndicate, including one belonging to the SCs/STs, one OBC, one woman and one from a religious minority. In the recent years, Syndicate nominations have gained notoriety for being political in nature.

Mangaluru, Apr 21: An elderly woman from Bantwal taluk in Dakshina Kannada district has been diagnosed with covid-19, a deadly disease caused by coronavirus.

The state health and family welfare department, in its bulletin released on Tuesday morning, confirmed  that 67-year old woman suffering from covid-19.

The woman is said to be a neighbour of the woman from who died last Friday after being infected with coronavirus.

It is suspected that the virus reached elderly woman's body as she was in touch with the deceased.

The woman was admitted to Covid - 19 Hospital, Mangaluru, on the April 18 after she developed breathing problem. It is learnt that she is responding to the treatment

Mangaluru, May 28: As many as 19 labourers, who were stranded in Lakshadweep island due to lockdown following COVID-19 outbreak, have been brought back to Mangaluru by a boat ' Amindivi' on Thursday.

On their arrival, they were subjected to medical examination and were warmly welcomed by their family members who had come to receive them at the Port.
