Addressing party workers at the Nehru Maidan in Mangaluru, Mr Siddaramaiah cautioned youth in the coastal belt “to not fall prey to Hindutva and divisive agenda of the BJP.” He said the BJP has been trying to divide the society by projecting “Hindutva” in the forefront, particularly in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.

The Chief Minister said the Congress was observing the “Indira 100” programme to unite people as Integration Day.

Mr Parameshwara, said Saturday's programme was “intentionally organised in Mangaluru” to hit out at the brand of “communal politics” of the BJP. He said it was aimed at “reinstilling confidence among the party cadre ahead of the Assembly polls scheduled for April 2018.”

He said Mr. Siddaramaiah and the Congress had received an “overwhelming response” to its padayatra titledCongress nadige samarasyada kadege' from Ullal to Udupi ahead of the previous Assembly elections. “It paid rich dividends to the party to win over the BJP in the 2013 Assembly elections in the two districts,” he claimed.

Of the eight Assembly segments in Dakshina Kannada district, the Congress increased its tally to seven seats in the 2013 elections from four in 2008. In Udupi, the Congress was able to win three of five Assembly seats. It bagged only one seat in Udupi district in 2008.

However, interestingly, the recent zilla panchayat elections in both Dakshina Kannada and Udupi were bagged by the BJP.

Udupi, Feb 8: A rare sixth century granite idol of ‘Lajja Gauri’ has been discovered fixed on the road in Barkur village of Udupi district, according to information furnished by Dr. Shivakant Bajpai, Superintending Archaeologist of ASI Bangalore Circle. Lajja Gauri is depicted in nude form and is said to be a fertility symbol. The idol is rare, though very popular among certain cults.

Dr Shivakant Bajpai, who is on a tour of the coastal districts, said that he first came across the image when it went viral on social media. He subsequently traced it to a public road in Barkur, which is an ancient historical town of coastal Karnataka. It was the ancient capital of the Alupa kingdom and a seat of power for several centuries.

“This is a very important idol and hundreds of vehicles pass over it every day. We are rescuing it and I have issued an order to my local in-charge to keep it in safe custody. I have also sent a mail in this regard to the DC and SP of the district,” he said.

The idol is likely to be of 6th or 7th century, though further study is required to confirm a date, Dr. Bajpai said.

Lajja Gauri is a lotus-headed Hindu deity associated with abundance, fertility and sexuality, sometimes euphemistically described as Lajja ("modesty").

Bengaluru, Jul 16: Former union minister and Senior Congress leader Veerappa Moily on Wednesday said that if at all there is a political future for Sachin Pilot it is in the Congress party.

While speaking to news agency, Moily said Sachin Pilot achieved everything by being in Congress party.

"Sachin Pilot became MP, union minister in UPA-II, PCC president in Rajasthan and Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan. Whatever grievances you have, it needs to be resolved within the forum of the party. There is no hurry for Sachin Pilot. If at all there is a future for him it is in the Congress party. He has to realise that. He says he won't join BJP, it is good," Moily said.

The former Union Minister Moily further said that Pilot could not become Chief Minister as in Congress, the high command sends an observer and opinion of MLAs is ascertained, be it in Madhya Pradesh or Rajasthan.

"The leader who enjoys the support of elected MLAs is made Chief Minister," Moily said.
On July 14, Congress party had sacked Sachin Pilot from the post of Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan and also from PCC president.

The Rajasthan Congress is in turmoil over the past few days. State Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has blamed the BJP for attempting to destabilise the state government by poaching MLAs. The Congress government in the state is facing a political crisis after simmering differences between Pilot and Ashok Gehlot came out in the open.

A controversy broke out in Rajasthan after Special Operation Group (SOG) sent a notice to Pilot to record his statement in the case registered by SOG in the alleged poaching of Congress MLAs in the state.
