Don’t know what’s happening in Congress, says JD(S) chief

Mysuru, Jan 21: AH Vishwanath, state JD(S) president, on Sunday played down rumours of some Congress legislators complaining against chief minister HD Kumaraswamy during the Congress legislature party meeting at a resort in Bidadi and demanding a change at the helm of the state.

Asked if Congress MLAs have demanded a change in chief minister, Vishwanath said it is not an issue to be discussed at a resort. “The two parties have set up a coordination committee, which is headed by a Congress leader,” Vishwanath said. “The issue can be discussed there, if that is the case.”

Vishwanath admitted nobody knows “what is really happening” and that the coalition partner “does not what is happening in the Congress camp”. However, he said: “The BJP is trying to destabilize the coalition government and the Congress is countering it. JD(S) is satisfied. There is no threat (to the government).”

Vishwanath also denied reports that the JD(S) too was indulging in “resort politics” after reports emerged that some MLAs stayed in a hotel on the outskirts of the city

Vishwanath said the legislators were invited to attend the launch of the trailer of Sandalwood film Kurukshetra which stars chief minister HD Kumaraswamy’s son, Nikhil. Since the screening was late in the evening on Saturday, some MLAs stayed the night at a hotel where dinner was hosted. He said they checked out on Sunday morning.

“We met and had dinner. Can’t we do that?” Vishwanath said. “They were not sequestered as we are united. There are no differences among our party MLAs and hence we don’t need to sequester them in a resort.”

Though the government has maintained the supply chain of essential items, few shopkeepers have used the lockdown opportunity to charge higher prices for essential items.

Need tough punishment.

Instead of helping with lesser price, troubling the people. These are cruels.
