Don’t look at my candidates, vote for me: Mayawati to Dalits

April 19, 2014

Mayawati_to_DalitsLucknow, Apr 19: In a bid to ensure victory for her Muslim and Brahmin candidates, BSP chief Mayawati Thursday asked her core Dalit supporters not to think about the party’s nominees but only her while casting their votes. She asked them to vote for “your Behenji… Dalit varg ki beti (dalit’s daughter)”.

The BSP has fielded maximum numbers of Brahmins (21) and Muslims (19) among the four major parties in the state.

“Opposition parties’ leaders will tell you that there is a Muslim candidate or a Brahmin candidate (of BSP), but I would like to tell the Dalits that if the party wins these seats it will be a victory not for a Muslim or a Brahmin, but it will be Mayawati’s victory,” she said while addressing a rally in Kanpur for the party candidates from Kanpur and Akbarpur seats. The BSP has fielded Salim Ahmed, a Muslim, from Kanpur and former MP Anil Shukla Warsi, a Brahmin, from neighbouring Akbarpur seat.

“I would like to tell our Dalit supporters of Kanpur that whether these candidates come to your area seeking your votes or not, but you have to vote for BSP thinking that you are fighting this election for your Behenji. Don’t think about these candidates… victory will bring fame not only to these candidates, but it will also increase the stature of your Dalit varg ki beti. You have to strengthen your Behenji so that a Dalit’s daughter can also become Prime Minister,” she told a gathering, largely of Dalits and Muslims, at Ramlila Maidan here.

Akbarpur goes to polls on April 24, while Kanpur will vote on April 30.

The former UP chief minister asked Muslims to vote for BSP and not to “waste their votes on Congress or Samajwadi Party as these parties are not in a position to stop BJP from capturing power at the Centre”.

“Dalits have the strength of 2 to 2.50 lakh in every constituency. BSP is also getting support from some backward classes and some upper castes. If Muslim community wants to stop BJP from coming to power, it should not divide its vote and vote only for the BSP,” she said.

Targeting BJP PM candidate Narendra Modi, she said the country’s harmony would be in danger if Modi comes to power.

A large crowd of Muslims had gathered to listen to her, but Mohammad Javed, a shopkeeper, said they came here because Salim’s good relations with the community. He, however, said, “But Muslims are not going to vote for a single party here. Some will vote for Congress’s Sriprakash Jaiswal(Union Coal Minister), some for Salim and some for Aam Aadmi Party’s Dr Mahmood Rahmani.”

Lucknow, Jan 16: The drive initiated by Uttar Pradesh's Yogi Adityanath government to identify non-Muslim immigrants in the state seems to have run into rough weather.

In Pilibhit, where the maximum number of about 35,000 illegal immigrants has been identified, it has now been found that information is being sought by the state government on an unverified document. A large number of families from Bangladesh settled here several decades ago.

The survey began last month even before the bill was notified. Moreover, the feedback email on the questionnaire is a Gmail ID -- [email protected] -- which is not a government server.

It is not known how the state government is drawing up the lists without having the verification criteria.

After the report was put up by a news website, Home Department officials feigned complete ignorance about the issue.

A spokesman said: "This was an unofficial and preliminary exercise to assess the number of illegal migrants in the state. The document is meant to collect basic beneficiary information. No list of potential beneficiaries has yet been sent to Delhi."

The document has eight columns asking for name, father's name, place of stay in India, and where did they come from and when. It does not mention any requirement of proof, or documents.

It also asks for a description of the kind of atrocities they faced, presumably in their home country.

The District Magistrate of Pilibhit claimed they are checking documents of the refugees, but denied any knowledge of the unsigned document.

The CAA is meant to benefit Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan who came to India before December 31, 2014. The statement of purposes of the Act adds that it is meant to benefit those fleeing religious persecution from the above countries.

Yogi is unfit to be CM as he does not know what he speaks and does.   Its unfortunate that we are such idiot as CM.    Instead of CAA we need PAA (Politician amendment act).    We need age limit of politicians to be fixed to 65 or maximum 70 years and any one coming in politics to be free from any bad doing.   No rapists/murders/looters/decoits should be allowed to contest election.   Presently 90 percent of the politicians have bad record.  Few are rapists, murders, having spent jail term etc.

Mumbai, Jan 29: Unfazed by his suspension from flying on Tuesday, stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra on Wednesday claimed that he once again approached television journalist Arnab Goswami, who he said was his co-passenger on a flight from Lucknow, for an "honest discussion" but was turned away.

Kamra tweeted in the morning that "Arnab Goswami was again travelling in his flight while returning from Lucknow". "I again asked him politely if he wants to have a honest discussion he with his verbal arrogant hand jester he asked me to move away & I did that (sic)," he tweeted.

The comedian was suspended from flying by IndiGo and Air India on Tuesday after he allegedly heckled Goswami aboard a Mumbai-Lucknow plane and posted a video clip on his Twitter handle.

While IndiGo suspended Kamra from flying with it for a period of six months, Air India banned him until further notice.

In a statement released on Twitter after he posted the video, Kamra said he did "exactly what Republic TV journalists do to people in their private/public spaces". Kamra stated he had not done anything criminal by allegedly heckling Goswami.
