Double murder: Accused who fled abroad arrested at Mangaluru Airport

Mangaluru, May 16: A prime accused in Periya twin murder case who had managed to escape abroad has been nabbed by the police on Thursday morning from Mangaluru International Airport.

A Subeesh, a native of Pakkam, had fled from his place a few days after the murder of two Youth Congress workers - Sarath Lal and Kripesh - at Periye in Kasaragod district of Kerala on February 17. The police had sought Interpol’s help to catch him. 

Subeesh, who was working as a porter in Uduma area, was at his native place in the first few days after the murder was committed. When the investigation intensified, he escaped from the area. As the police realised he flew abroad, they started making plans to nab him.

On Thursday morning Subeesh arrived at Mangaluru airport and the police arrested him. He was part of the murder gang. Police had started attempts to seek help of the Interpol to find Subeesh from the foreign country.

With Subeesh’s arrest, all main accused in the case are in custody, it is learnt. All in the list of accused have been arrested. After Subeesh was arrested, the number of arrested persons touched 14.

Udupi, Aug 6: Three people including police personnel entered a well and rescued an elderly woman who had accidentally fallen into Udupi on Thursday.

A police sub-inspector and two others got down into a well and rescued the elderly woman, who accidentally fell into well at near her home at Kukkikatte.

The locals immediately alerted to police and fire and rescue personal.

Udupi town police sub-inspector Sadashiva Govroji, fire and rescue staff Vinayaka and a local Auto-driver Rajesh Nayak got into the well and brought the woman out safely.

Mangaluru, Jan 27: JD(S) leader and former Labour Minister K Amarnath Shetty passed away at a private hospital in Mangaluru on Monday morning. He was 80. Shetty was unwell for sometime, and was admitted to the hospital a few days ago, family sources said.

Amarnath Shetty, a trustee of Alva's Education Foundation (AEF), had joined politics in 1965.

He became the president of Paladka Gram Panchayat and soon was elected as MLA from Moodbdri constituency in 1983. He won the successive elections held in the same constituency in 1987 and 1994. He had served as Tourism and later as Labour Minister.

Thrissur, Feb 2: The Kerala government on Saturday said the condition of the medical student, kept in an isolation ward in Thrissur after testing positive for the novel coronavirus is satisfactory and that three people have been arrested for spreading false information on social media about the disease.

The woman, who tested positive, is a student of Wuhan university and is undergoing treatment at the Thrissur Medical College Hospital.

"The health status of the student who tested positive for coronavirus remains satisfactory.

The hospital authorities have confirmed that the health condition of all symptomatic persons under isolation in hospitals are "stable", a bulletin said.

Health Minister K K Shailaja said Kerala has strengthened surveillance and control measures against the epidemic, which has been declared by WHO as a global emergency,

She told reporters here that three people have been arrested for spreading false information about those who had arrived in the state from coronavirusa affected countries and are under home surveillance.

Six others had forwarded the posts and the cyber cell was probing the matter, Shailaja said.

The minister had earlier warned that strong action would be taken against those putting out false news on the disease.

Police said Sabari was arrested on Friday and released on bail, while two others-- Shafi and Siraj were arrested on Saturday.

Two cases have been registered in two police stations in Thrissur in this connection, they said.

A medical bulletin said that till date, 1793 people who travelled from coronavirus affected countries have been identified and placed under surveillance.
