Double murder: Massive protests against CPM delegation in Kasaragod

Kasaragod, Feb 23: Uprorious scenes of protests by Congress workers and women were witnessed against the visit of a CPI(M) delegation at Periya and Kalliot near here on Saturday.

The delegation led by P. Karunakaran, MP and comprising senior and local CPI(M) leaders including K Kunhiraman, MLA and former MLA Satheesh Chandran, were on their way to visit the houses of the party workers and institutions which were ransacked by Congress workers, as an aftermath of the double murder at Periya. 

Two Youth Congress workers - Kripesh and Sarath Lal, were hacked to death by a gang including CPI(M) local committee members and others.

Udupi, Apr 29: Udupi Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesha on Wednesday said that though the district was in the green zone in connection with COVID-19, there would not be any further relaxations and the lockdown would continue till May 3.

According to a statement, he said that no fresh Covid-19 cases have been reported for the past month. However, the district is not immune to the threat of the infection. Thus, the lockdown would continue till May 3 with minimum relaxation.

The district has already initiated relaxations and mandatory guidelines have to be implemented, he further said.

Kasaragod, May 27: In a tragic incident, two persons, who were brothers, died of asphyxiation while trying to rescue a calf that fell in their well at Bandhiyod near here on Wednesday.

Police sources said the elder brother Narayanan (50) entered into the well first to save the calf that fell in the well early in the morning.

His brother Sankaran (40) also followed suit after he noticed his brother fainting deep down the well. However, he also fainted inside the well.

Bengaluru, Jan 5: Rural development and panchayat raj minister K S Eshwarappa has received two threatening calls from Tamil Nadu, according to Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai.

He said that he had instructed the police to provide adequate security. 

At 12.30 pm on Friday, an unidentified person made a phone call. Speaking in Tamil, he threatened Eshwarappa with life, it is said.

Eshwarappa is known for abusive remarks and issuing threats to non-Hindus.
