Mangaluru, Jan 19: More than a month after a woman allegedly ended her life unable to bear harassment over dowry near Konaje in Mangaluru taluk, her husband has been arrested by the Ullal police.

sucideAboobakkar Siddiq, a resident of Nadar-Madoor, was arrested on charge of abetting his wife Ramlath to commit suicide. He was produced before a court which remanded him judicial custody.

The accused had gone absconding after Ramlath went to her maternal house and committed suicide on December 13 under the limits of Konaje police station. The case was later shifted to Ullal police station.

Aboobakar had married Ramlath, daughter of Hasanabba, from Adkarepadpu near Konaje nearly 15 years ago.

It is learnt that for past few years Ramlath’s husband and in-laws were harassing her demanding additional dowry including Rs 5 lakh in cash and jewellery.

The family members of the Ramlath have accused Abboobakar, his mother Nebisa and sisters Mumtaz and Asma and latter’s husband Yunus of torturing the victim both physically and mentally.

At any cost Suicide is non-pardonable towards Almighty Allah, there are many doors open which will save her and support her by morally and financially. It is really very bad to take such a serious step and Islam condemn ending life by our selves.

Davanagere, Jan 16: Congress leader D K Shivakumar on Thursday turned down all the recent media reports of him aspiring for the coveted Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committe (KPCC) president post.

Terming all the news, doing rounds, as baseless, Shivakumar said that he never made any attempt to become KPCC president. "All I want to do is work for my people and party", he asserted.

Referring to Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa's visit to Harihar's 'Our Lady of Health Minor Basilica' programme, Shivakumar said."I'm not concerned about what others are doing, everyone is free to take part in the programmes."

Mangaluru, Jul 13: Air India Express flight brought around 170 passengers from Bahrain to Mangaluru under Vande Bharat Mission yesterday.

This is the first VBM flight from Bahrain to Mangaluru. The flight took off from Bahrain at 10 am on Sunday and landed at Mangaluru International airport at 4.45 pm.

Even though thousands of Indian expatriates from other gulf countries were brought to Mangaluru in past few weeks, no flight was arranged from Bahrain so far. Hence, several Mangalureans including senior citizens, women and patients were stranded in Bahrain for months together.

Local entrepreneur and president of Indian Overseas Congress (IOC) Mohammed Mansoor, who saw the plight of the hapless Indian expatriates in Bahrain had discussions with the Indian embassy in Bahrain and convinced it to arrange a special Air India Express flight under the Vande Bharat Mission.

IOC, along with the cooperation of ‘KHK Heroes’ had arranged meal kits for passengers during their flight to Mangaluru. IOC had also contacted all the Mangaluru-based NRIs who wanted to fly back to India and made a list with the help of Indian embassy to avoid any untoward incidents.

IOC had also given details of hotels to be quarantined in Mangaluru and Udupi, names of nodal officers to be contacted and emergency telephone numbers. The passengers were given a warm farewell by the office bearers of IOC from Bahrain international airport.

The effort taken by Mohammed Mansoor, president of IOC is lauded by all. All the passengers who travelled by the flight have thanked IOC and its office bearers whole heartedly.
