Dr Arathi Krishna becomes the first Chairperson of the NRI Cell of KPCC

Newsroom, May 9: Dr Arathi Krishna, deputy chairperson of the NRI Forum of Karnataka, has been appointed as the first chairperson of the NRI Cell of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC).

Dr Arathi Krishna, who received the appointed letter from KPCC president Dr G Parameshwar today, told coastaldigest.com that the intention behind the formation of the Cell is to publicize the Congress party among NRIs around the world.

While highlighting the initiatives taken by the chief minister Siddaramaiah led Congress government of Karnataka towards the welfare of NRIs from the State, she has urged the NRIs to create awareness among their families back home to vote for the party in the upcoming assembly polls.

Daughter of Begane Ramaiah, a veteran Congress leader and former rural development minister of Karnataka, Dr Arathi Krishna has been associated with the Congress party and NRIs for a prolonged period.

Earlier she had worked as a Community Development Officer in the Indian Embassy in Washington DC, and as an Adviser in the India Development Foundation, Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs. She also has set up an NGO ‘Krishna Foundation’ to partake in socio-economic needs and provide improved educational facilities in remote villages of Karnataka.

She holds a master degree in ‘political science’ from Mysore University, another master degree in ‘international commerce and public’ from George Mason University, Washington, and an honorary doctorate from Kuvempu University.

Congrats. Good move by KPCC. NRIs expect more from Congress and the Karnataka govt in days to come. The absence of Congress activities among NRIs had helped the growth of communal oufits like SDPI.

Mangaluru, Jan 11: Reacting to the recent video clippings provided to the media by former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy in connection with the December 19 unrest in Mangaluru, city Police Commissioner Dr PS Harsha on Saturday said that the video has to be seen in a proper sequence to come to a conclusion on the happenings of that day.

Releasing videos in bits and pieces on social media or any platform will not help disclose the truth, said Harsha.

Mangaluru, Jul 19: In the wake of the COVID-19 lockdown imposed till July 23, streets in the Dakshina Kannada district here bore a deserted look today (Sunday) morning.

The state government had allowed relaxation hours between 8 am to 11 am in the week-long total shutdown. However today there was no relaxation. 

All shops including those selling essential commodities were also seen closed in the district today. Besides, barricades were also seen stationed at different junctures on the road.

As per Karnataka's COVID-19 information portal, a total of 59,652 coronavirus cases have been reported in the state, including 36,631 active cases and 21,775 recoveries. So far, 1,240 people have died due to the infection in the state. 

Dakshina Kannada so far recorded 3,311 covid-19 positive cases and 75 deaths.

Bengaluru, Jul 17: Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Mayor, M Goutham Kumar on Friday called for an extension of lockdown in the city for one more week due to rise in the COVID-19 cases.

"It will be better if we get more time to tackle COVID-19 cases, we wish for the extension of lockdown for one more week. We have given the proposal to the government," said M Goutham Kumar, BBMP Mayor.

"After the number of cases increased in Bengaluru, BBMP started antigen test in containment and hotspot zones of Bengaluru to tackle the cases which have crossed 2,000 mark," he added.

Along with Mayor, BBMP Commissioner Anil Kumar has also proposed the state government to extend lockdown in Bengaluru for one more week.

"The number of cases in Bengaluru increasing in Bengaluru rapidly. BBMP has inaugurated more than 200 vehicles in Bengaluru for the use of the antigen test," said Anil Kumar, Commissioner BBMP.

According to the Union Health Ministry, there are 51,422 COVID-19 cases in the state.
