Mangaluru, Aug 11: A youth from Dakshina Kannada district, who had to undergo severe hardship after joining a new in Qatar, finally returned home with the help of NRI social activists from Gulf country.

Abdul Hameed (35), hailing from Killur village in Belthangady of the coastal district was working as a light vehicle driver in Qatar for several years.

Three months ago, he changed his company when offered a better pay package. "I was made to work for about 20 hours a day. I had to rush whenever I get calls," he said.

His efforts to get help from the embassy went in vain. He called all his friends in the Gulf countries. Finally, one of his friends in Saudi Arabia brought Hameed's issue to the notice of the Karnataka Cultural Foundation (KCF), a socio-cultural organization of NRI Kannadigas.

KCF volunteers made necessary arrangements for his repatriation. Hameed took off from Qatar on August 4 and reached home safely.

Mangaluru, Jun 7: The Sri Krishna temple at Udupi would not re-open on June 8 although permission has been given to all temples to allow devotees for darshan, Admaru mutt junior seer Paryaya Swami Ishapriya Teertha said on Saturday. He told reporters in Udupi that the mutt has decided not to allow devotees at present to join the fight against COVID-19 by the government, health department and the police.

The seer said the situation would be assessed in the next 20-30 days after which a decision to re-open the place of worship would be taken.

The health of the devotees and the staff at the mutt and temple would have to be protected.

However, pujas and rituals would continue to be held at the temple, he said.

Meanwhile, Dharmasthala dharmadhikari D Veerendra Heggade said in a press release that the Lord Manjunatheshwara temple in Dharmasthala in Dakshina Kannada district would open for devotees from June 8. He said 800-1,000 devotees would be allowed to have darshan at the temple every day, keeping with the regulations of the government.

Mass-feeding (annadhanam) in the Annapoorna hall would also be organised, maintaining social distance in view of the virus spread.

Moon sighting for the start of the month of Ramazan, for end of fastings- Eidul Fitr, for the month of Hajj and Muharram:

The moon sighting is so easy. We the people of India and have Indian Standard Time all.over India.

When we can accept the moon sighting in Delhi and announcement from Delhi as it was during times of Radio and Doordarshan news, why can we not accept the sighting of moon in coastal region of Karnataka and in Kerala?

Let us bring about change for good.

Why is rest of Karnataka or India not joining for Eid with coastal region and kerala? At the time of Radio and Dorrdarshan only days, all of India used to wait for 8.00 pm news for updates of moon sighting. So why not accept the moon signing witnesses in Kerala or coastal region?

I request all Indians to accept the witnessing of Moon sighting in any area of India and start and end Fasting.
