Mangaluru, Aug 9: Aneesh John, who reportedly rammed his car against an auto-rickshaw driver in an inebriated state near Ambedkar Circle in the city on Sunday night, is now facing the charge of mere culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
A communiqué from the Traffic Police here said that the accused has been booked under Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and Section 279 (rash driving) of the Indian Penal Code. A jurisdictional court has sent him to judicial custody till August 18, the communiqué added.
John reportedly rammed his car against the auto-rickshaw that was parked in front of KMC Hospital while coming from Bunts Hostel Circle, killing Praveen Kumar and injuring three other auto-rickshaw drivers.
While he was found to be intoxicated, liquor bottles were found inside the car. Results of a blood sample test are yet to arrive, the police added.
