Duped by Mangaluru agent, Quran teacher aspirant becomes ‘slave’ in Saudi

Mangaluru, Aug 2: A female Quran teacher from Koppal, who was allegedly duped by a Mangaluru based visa agent, is now helplessly working as a domestic maid in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Chand Sultana, wife of f Baba Jaan, a resident of Nirmithi Kendra area in Koppal, was lured into the job and taken to Saudi Arabia three months ago, saying she would get a salary of Rs 40,000 a month.

According to Sultana’s family members, she was promised the job of a teacher of the Quran and Arabic by the agent identified as Shamsheer. However, after reaching Saudi Arabia, Sultana was not allowed to she was forced to do household chores.

It is alleged that Sultana’s employer did not allow her to call up and speak to her family. Her family was also not able to contact her. Finally, Baba Jaan managed to speak to her on the phone of Farid Saab, an acquaintance, a few days ago.

Baba Jaan said his wife told them she had been locked up in a room and bread crumbs are thrown at her at lunch time. He said the agent had taken Rs 50,000 from them for providing the job. Jaan claimed four to five other women from Koppal had been taken to the Gulf country with the promise of jobs and are in a similar plight.

Sultana is said to have requested her employer to free her. But they told that she was brought there by paying Rs 4 lakh to the agent. The employer said she would be released if she pays them the amount. Baba Jaan has brought the matter to the notice of MP from Koppal Sanganna Karadi and the latter has promised to get the matter resolved.

Bengaluru, May 14: Michael Madhu was one of the popular actors in Sandalwood. He was widely known for portraying comedy roles. The news of his demise has come as a shock to all the members in the Kannada film industry and also his fans. Michael Madhu died on May 13 after suffering from a heart attack. As per a report in Zoom, the actor was rushed to the KIMS Hospital in Bengaluru after he suddenly collapsed at his home.

Michael Madhu, in his career spanning of almost two decades, has acted in more than 300 films. Some of his notable works include Bhajarangi, Shhh! and Ashwamedha. Besides being an impeccable actor, especially his perfect comic timings, Michael was also passionate about dancing and was huge fan of Michael Jackson. This was one of the major reasons why he added Michael to his name. He had entered the film industry with an aim to become a popular choreographer, but destiny had something else in store for him. Michael Madhu is survived by his wife and two daughters.

Fans of Michael Madhu have been sharing condolences on social media ever since the news of his death hit the internet. As per a report in media, the actor’s last rites will take place today.

Bengaluru, Jun 18: As many as 210 new COVID-19 cases and 12 deaths have been reported in Karnataka, taking the total cases to 7,944 and death toll to 114, said State Health Department.

Today, 179 persons have been discharged across the State while 4,983 persons have been discharged so far.

The number of total active cases in Karnataka stands at 2,843.

The COVID-19 count in India has reached 3,66,946 on Thursday, according to the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry (MoHFW).

The death toll due to COVID-19 has now reached 12,237. The COVID-19 count includes 1,60,384 active cases, while 1,94,325 patients have been cured and discharged or migrated so far.
