Bangalore, Sep 11: The Bangalore Police have arrested the managing director of a Dutch non-profit educational organisation on the charge of raping, cheating and criminally intimidating a 33-year-old woman from Gurgaon.

Dutch heldThe International Airport police on Wednesday arrested Peter de Bruijn, 43, who lives at Sadarahalli near the airport. Bruijn is the managing director of Nuffic Neso India—an organisation in the Netherlands for international co-operation in higher education. The non-profit is based in The Hague, the Netherlands.

The woman lodged the complaint on Tuesday night and claimed that Bruijn had forced her into a physical relationship on the promise of marriage but went back on his word. He cheated her by making false promises in order to satisfy his lust, she contended. DCP?(Northeast) Vikash Kumar Vikash said Bruijn had been booked under Sections 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 420 (cheating) of the IPC.

Bruijn is in India to promote educational programmes offered by Nuffic Neso India in Holland. He often visits India for official work. He arrived in Bangalore on an employment visa in January this year. Since then he has been staying here.

According to the police, Bruijn met the woman on January 9 through a dating site. She worked for nine years but quit the job last year. The two soon became intimate. Bruijn asked her to come live with him in Bangalore for sometime. She agreed and came to Bangalore on February 1, staying here until February 15.

“He promised to marry me and I trusted him,” she stated in the complaint. “I had a physical relationship with him only after he made the promise. Then I became pregnant and he started avoiding me.”

The woman said Bruijn later persuaded her to undergo an abortion. “I reminded him of his promise of marriage. But I was shocked when he denied having made any such promise.?I had no option but to approach the police.”

According to the woman, Bruijn also lied to her about his marital status. She said he was already married and had a child. “I believed him and stayed with him,” he added.

During the interrogation, Bruijn denied to the police that he was married. He said he was in a live-in-relationship with an Indian woman who bore him a child.
