DYFI demands special package to rehabilitate NRIs who lose jobs in Saudi, other countries

Mangaluru, Feb 10: The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) has urged the Karnataka government to take necessary measures to provide job, financial aid to those who lose job in middle eastern countries in the wake of their localization drives.

Speaking to media persons here on Friday, DYFI state president Muneer Katipalla said that thousands of expatriates from coastal Karnataka working in Saudi Arabia may lose their jobs because of continued Saudization.

“Over 32 lakhs legal Indian expatriates are working in Saudi Arabia. Among them at least 10 lakhs are from Karnataka and 4 lakhs of these hail from the coastal belt and Malnad regions,” Mr Katippalla claimed.

He said that these people are mainly employed in the 16 sectors, including mobile shops, jewellery stores and readymade clothing outlets, where the Saudi Arabia government has pressed for indigenisation.

The Karnataka government should formulate a special package for these repatriates on lines of the Kerala government, which has been giving interest free loans for small scale businessmen, rebate on loans for bigger entrepreneurs, skill development training and creating conducive environment to them to start their lives afresh in their homeland, said Mr Katipalla.

"It is because of the flow of money from the Gulf that the younger generation here is getting quality education. Foreign funds have changed the dimension of the coast. When such is the case, it becomes the responsibility of the state government to intervene and resolve the issue when the repatriates are in crisis," Muneer said, adding that the income of the NRIs played a crucial role in foreign exchange.

The Saudi government has set September as the deadline to employ its citizens and the deportation of Indians has begun, he stressed.

As Prime Minister Narendra Modi has embarked on a three-nation tour, including the UAE and Oman, Muneer demanded that Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP, and D V Sadananda Gowda, union minister - both from Dakshina Kannada - should take up the matter with the prime minister and make the issue a part of his talk there. Foreigners are having a relatively tough time finding jobs in the entire Gulf because of the decline in petroleum prices and internal issues.

There are at least a crore Indians in the Gulf and the locals from the Karnataka coast form a substantial part.

C M Ibrahim seeks Karnataka govt nod for mass Eid-ul-Fitr prayers

Bengaluru, May 14: Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Former Union Minister and Congress Karnataka MLC, C M Ibrahim has, in a letter to Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, sought permission for the Muslim community to congregate at Idgah grounds and mosques to offer namaz together on the occasion of Id-ul-Fitr later this month.

"The Id-ul-Fitr festival in the state may be celebrated on the 24th or 25th May 2020, during which Muslims have to offer special prayers. On behalf of the entire community. I would suggest that the Government may take a decision by having due consultation with medical experts to grant permission for Muslims on the day of Id to offer prayers in the Idgah maidans or masjids from morning till 1 pm with all precautionary measures and safety norms," the letter states.

"In this regard. I request you to kindly look into the matter and after consulting the medical experts, take a suitable decision enabling Muslims all over the state to offer ld prayers at ldgah Maidans or Masjids in their respective localities," the letter added.

As part of its COVID-19 guidelines, the Ministry of Home Affairs had earlier directed states and Union territories to prevent social gatherings and religious congregations and ensure lockdown measures were strictly followed.

If Mr. Yediyurappa gives permission as reqested by Ibrahim, it will be adisastor for Muslims community, Saudi Arabia imposed , full curfew from 23rd to 30th May, 2020, this is to avoid Eid gathering and spread of Corona Virus, our community should boycott such so called self declared leader.

'Govt has miserably failed in tackling situation arising out of coronavirus'

Bengaluru, Mar 25: Former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday targetted Centre over surge in coronavirus cases in the country, alleging that the government has miserably failed in tackling the unprecedented situation and was still not managing the crisis well.
"The government has miserably failed in tackling this very serious disease. They are not properly managing the crisis," senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah told ANI.
Siddaramaiah's response comes a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a 21-day lockdown in the entire country to deal with the spread of coronavirus, saying that "social distancing" is the only option to deal with the disease, which spreads rapidly.
In a televised address to the nation, Prime Minister Modi said that it is vital to break the chain of the disease and experts have said that at least 21 days are needed for it.
The Prime Minister said the lockdown has drawn a "Lakshman Rekha" in every home and people should stay indoors for their own protection and for that of their families.
Noting that the Centre has on Tuesday allocated Rs 15,000 crore for the treatment of coronavirus patients and to strengthen health infrastructure, he said testing facilities, personal protective equipment, isolation beds, ICU beds, ventilators and other necessary materials will be ramped up.
The Prime Minister said the country will have to bear the economic cost of lockdown but saving the life of every citizen is his priority and the priority of the Central and state governments as also of local administrations.
Noting that the virus spreads like fire, he said that if care is not taken for 21 days, the country, a family can go behind by 21 years.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), India has reported about 536 individuals have been confirmed positive among suspected cases and contacts of known positive cases. A total of 22,694 samples from March 24 till 8 pm.
Ten people have died so far due to the deadly virus, according to the data by Union health ministry.

Karnataka BJP urges Modi govt to ban PFI, SDPI

Bengaluru, Jan 29: The Karnataka unit of BJP has urged the Centre and the State governments to ban the Popular Front of India (PFI) and the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), accusing them of harbouring terrorist tendencies.

Addressing a press meet, N Ravi Kumar, state general secretary of the party, alleged that there was a nexus between the Congress, the PFI and the SDPI.

“Recent reports have exposed the links between the PFI and the Congress,” he said, accusing Congress leader Kapil Sibal of receiving huge funds from PFI to defend their cases in the Supreme Court.

He also accused the organisations as the ones responsible for the death of 23 Hindu activists in Karnataka. Such incidents have proven that both SDPI and PFI are dubious organisations, he said.
