Dy.SP accused of kidnapping youth with the help of Bajrang Dal activist

kallappaChikkamagaluru, Jul 5: In a blatant case of a senior police official taking to crime, the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Chikkamagaluru sub-division, is accused of being involved in the kidnapping of a youth for ransom. A Bajrang Dal activist was said to be his accomplice in the alleged act.

The Basavanahalli police in Chikkamagaluru have registered a case against Dy.SP Kallappa Handibag and four others, including Bajrang Dal activist Praveen Khandya, on the charge of kidnapping Chikkamagaluru resident Tejas Gowda on June 28 and extracting Rs. 10 lakh as ransom for his release.

The accused is now missing, and the police have launched a manhunt. The policeman was on duty till Sunday and the incident came to light only on Monday when Mr. Gowda filed a complaint with the police, naming the police officer as the person to whom the ransom money was handed over.

Bengaluru, Jul 17: Karnataka Medical Education Minister K Sudhakar held a meeting through video conference on Thursday with private and government establishments involved in testing and treatment of COVID-19 in the state.

A total of 51,422 cases including 19,729 recoveries and 1,032 deaths were reported in the state till yesterday.

On the same day, K Sudhakar also paid a surprise visit to the Bengaluru's CV Raman Hospital and urged the administration to follow COVID-19 guidelines properly. He also took stock of the hospital's preparedness to fight the deadly virus.

"Surprise visits will continue. I will be in touch with every lab and get the right number of tests done on a daily basis," the minister said while speaking to the media.

He also urged the people who have recovered from coronavirus to donate their plasma to save other lives, adding that donors will receive a reward of Rs 5,000 as a token of appreciation.

Udupi, Jan 17: Six fishermen were rescued by members of another fishing boat after their boat capsized off Gangolli coast in the District recently.

Police on Friday said that the fishing boat, belonging to Jayalakshmi of Kodi Kanyana, had set sail from Malpe towards Gangolli on the night of January 12. On Wednesday (Jan 15) the vessel’s hull got damaged and water began gushing in.

Mangaluru, Jun 17: A private flight chartered by UAE-based NRI hotelier Praveen Shetty has brought home around 175 people from United Arab Emirates.

This is the third flight chartered by Mr Shetty, chairman of the Fortune Group of Hotels, and president of the Karnataka Non-Resident Indian Forum, to repatriate his employees and other stranded Kannadigas.

The Air Arabia flight with 168 adult passengers and six infants on board took off from Sharjah International Airport at 9:45 pm (UAE time) on June 16 and landed at Mangaluru International Airport at 2:50 am Indian Standard Time on June 17.
