DySP Anupama Shenoy gets transfer order for holding minister’s call

January 22, 2016

Ballari, Jan 22: Can a government officer be punished for keeping the phone call of a minister on hold and attending to another call?

There is no rule of the kind but reliable sources say a woman officer of the rank of deputy superintendent of police, Ms Anupama Shenoy, posted at Kudligi police sub-division in the district, has been shunted out of the district for keeping the phone call of district-in-charge and labour minister P.T. Parameshwar Naik on hold and speaking to her higher-officer, within a day.

DySPSources said that Ms Shenoy received a call on her mobile phone Monday evening (January 18) from an unknown number and the person at the other end said, “District in-charge minister (wants to) talk to you.”

She reportedly waited for 25 to 30 seconds but there was no response from the other side. In the meantime, she got a call from her higher officer and cut the call of the minister’s aide to speak to her higher-up.

Within few minutes, she received a call again from the unknown number and district in charge minister Mr Naik spoke to her saying, “Can’t (you) hold the phone call for a minute when the district in charge minister is on the line”.

The conversation between them reportedly continued for about 25 minutes and finally, the minister warned her of serious consequences.

The next day, (January 19) night, she got an order transferring her to Athani in Belagavi district and on January 20, she got another order transferring her to Indi in Vijayapura district.

Mangaluru, Jun 2: Karnataka-Kerala border at Talapady is yet to be opened for traffic despite lifting lockdown. Only those, who have registered on ‘Seva Sindhu’ portal, are given one-time permission to enter the district.

With the relaxation of the lock-down many, especially the labour class, were anticipating free movement. However, both the States have not allowed free movement of vehicles. Hundreds of people from bordering villages of Kerala arrive in Mangaluru for work and likewise many from bordering villages of Mangaluru too work in Kasargod district.

It has become a routine for the labourers of both the States living in border villages to daily assemble at the check post in the morning and return after the authorities refuse free movement.

Mangaluru, June 10: Former minister and Mangaluru MLA U T Khader has hit out at the Karnataka government for what he opined that it is misusing the Epidemic Diseases Act to target opposition parties.

The statement comes in the backdrop of state government’s move to scuttle oath taking ceremony of KPCC president designate D K Shivakumar.

Asserting that the oath taking will be a grand affair, Mr Khader said that Congress will not be browbeaten by the tactics of the BJP.

Citing the blatant violation of all norms laid down under the Act by minister for health B R Sriramulu at Chitradurga earlier this month, Khader told reporters that the BJP is using the Act for its narrow political gains.

“KPCC has twice deferred swearing in ceremony of Shivakumar after being given the oral go ahead,” Khader claimed, adding the state government must explain to people the issue it has with the Congress organising this function.

Referring to the back-to-back virtual political rallies – one for Bihar and the other for Odisha – on Sunday and Monday that union home minister Amit Shah conducted, Khader wondered if the Act did not apply to the BJP leadership.
