Chikkamagaluru, Dec 3: A senior police officer associated with the State Intelligence Wing died of a heart attack at Narasimharajapura in Chikkkamagalur on Friday while on duty. He was part of the chief minister's security cover since Thursday.
Deputy Superintendent of police Sheik Hussein (57) collapsed soon after the CM’s chopper took off from the helipad in Chikkamagalur around 10.30am. Doctors attached to the CM's medical team checked his health, and said that his pulse was low. Hussein was immediately shifted to the Narasimaharajapura Government Hospital.
When his condition continued to deteriorate, the doctors at the hospital advised that it would be better to shift Hussein to the district hospital. But, Hussein passed away before he could be moved, breathing his last around 12.20pm.
Hussein's hometown was Mudigere in Chikkamagalur. Hussein had appeared to be fit during his interactions with his seniors and subordinates on Thursday and Friday, before collapsing suddenly.
Chikkamagalur SP K Annamalai confirmed that Hussein had died of a heart attack on Friday. "Hussein was a wonderful individual and an able officer," he said.
Hussein, a resident of Hassan, took charge as DySP of the State Intelligence Wing in Chikkamagaluru a month ago. He is survived by his wife and two children.
