Mangaluru, Jul 12: The activist of Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday stormed the premises of the office of the Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner in the city to exhibit their anger towards the Congress government of Karnataka in the wake of Mangaluru DySP MK Ganapathi's suicide.
The main demand of the agitators was that chief minister Siddaramiah should take necessary steps to arrest K J George, the Minister for Bengaluru Development and Town Planning, against whom Ganapathi had levelled harassment allegations before hanging himself in Madikeri last week.
This is the third protest organised by the local unit of BJP in front of the office of DC in the city in four days on the same issue.
Addressing the protesters at the entrance gate of the DC office, before entering inside, Rahim Uchil, a minority morcha leader of the saffron party, said that it was unfortunate that an honest officer ended his life in uniform. It was sad that police officers, who were supposed to protect the people, were ending their lives after farmers in the State.
“The incident shows that police too are not safe in the State under Congress government. Then what about common man?,” Mr. Uchil said.
He said that if the government tried to protect Mr George and those officers against whom Ganapathi made allegations, the saffron party would intensity protest across the state.
“We will not hesitate to go to jail. We want justice,” he said. Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel was also among the protesters.
