EC to keep watch on 630 critical booths through webcasting

November 30, 2013

WebcastingNew Delhi, Nov 30: In a first, the Delhi Chief Electoral Office will keep a "live watch" on 630 critical booths through web-casting to deter people from indulging in any nuisance on the polling day.

Besides, CCTV cameras will be installed and central paramilitary force personnel along with micro observers will be present inside the critical polling stations.

"For the first time we will be introducing web casting in almost all the critical and hyper critical polling booths by which we will be able to see all the proceedings happening on the ground in those polling stations on a live basis in our control rooms," Chief Electoral Officer Vijay Dev told PTI today.

"So rather than doing a post-mortem of the events collected through CCTV, we will be able to keep a constant track of all the proceedings," Dev added.

He said, apart from that, there will be micro observers stationed inside the critical booths along with CCTV cameras installed.

The micro observer will be a central government official monitoring the sequence of events at the polling booths and will report directly to the Election Commission, Dev said.

He said that as many as 107 companies (around 100 personnel each) of central paramilitary force along with 64,000 Delhi police personnel will be deployed to carry out fair and free polling on December 4.

All these initiatives, he said, will act as deterrent for those attempting any nuisance and also instill confidence among people.

Dev said they were carrying out extensive review of the security arrangements in all the districts and a detailed review is being taken from all the DC's, DCPs and all the observers who have been deputed in these districts.

"The last 72 hours are extremely crucial and we are ensuring that all our flying squads, static surveillance teams and video surveillance teams are all active so that we can instantly cater to all the areas where there is apprehension of use of liquor, money and musclemen for vitiating the polls," he said.

They are also strengthening border vigil especially in North East and South west districts.

"We are going to ensure that in cooperation with states like UP and Haryana we are able to mount a tight vigil and ensure that there is no movement of liquor, cash and musclemen which have the potential of vitiating our polls," Dev said.

Lucknow, Jul 2: Senior BJP leader Uma Bharti Thursday appeared in person before a special court here conducting trial in the 1992 Babri mosque demolition case.

The special CBI court is currently recording the statements of 32 accused under CrPC section 313 (court's power to examine the accused), a stage in the trial that follows the examination of prosecution witnesses.

The 61-year-old saffron clad BJP leader is the 19th accused to depose before the court in the over 27-year-old case. Thirteen other alleged accused, including former deputy prime minister LK Advani and senior BJP leaders MM Joshi and Kalyan Singh are yet to be examined at this stage. Their lawyers have indicated to the CBI court that they prefer to appear through video conferencing.

The mosque in Ayodhya was demolished in December 1992 by 'kar sevaks' who claimed that an ancient Ram temple had stood on the same site. The CBI court is conducting day-to-day hearings to complete the trial by August 31, as directed by the Supreme Court.

New Delhi, Feb 16: Just an hour ahead of the swearing-in ceremony, Arvind Kejriwal invited the people of Delhi again for his oath-taking ceremony at Ramlila Maidan today.

Referring himself as "son of Delhi", the AAP convener today tweeted saying, "Delhiites, your son is going to take oath as Delhi chief minister for the third time. You must come to bless your son".

The AAP national convener will be sworn-in as the Chief Minister of Delhi for the third time in a row.

Arvind Kejriwal is scheduled to take oath along with other ministers at Ramlila Maidan.

On Saturday, Kejriwal, through a tweet, has said that autorickshaw drivers, students, teachers, doctors, labourers, etc will be the "chief guests".

The guest list put out by the AAP includes ''Delhi ke Nirmata''- people who contributed to the development of the city during the last five years.

These include Sumit Nagal, a Delhi government school student and an international Tennis player, Laxman Chaudhry an auto driver, Manu Gulati a teacher and "one of the many architects of Delhi Governance Model", Dalbir Singh a farmer, Ratan Jamshed Batliboi - the architect of the famous Signature Bridge among others.

By winning 62 seats by cashing in on the plank of development, his party nearly repeated its 2015 performance, sweeping the Assembly polls in the face of a high-voltage campaign by the BJP, which had fielded a battery of Union Ministers and Chief Ministers in its electioneering, spearheaded by Home Minister Amit Shah.

The BJP marginally improved its tally, managing just eight seats from its 2015''s tally of three seats. The Congress failed to open its account in the second successive election.
