Mangaluru, Jun 26: For the first time in the history of Ullal, Muslims offered Eid al-Fitr namaz for two consecutive days in the same mosque, a development observed by Islamic scholars  as “most unfortunate and un-Islamic.”

With this the internal clash between two factions of Sayyid Shareeful Madani Dargah and central Juma Masjid has entered a new phase.

High drama prevailed, when a group of followers of beleaguered Ullal Khazi Fazal Koyamma Thangal aka Koorath Thangal, entered the premises of the mosque located adjacent to the dargah chanting takbir as part of Eid celebration on Monday noon.

Those who were inside the mosque, locked the doors from inside in an attempt to prevent the followers of Koorth Thangal from offering Eid namaz for the second day. Police had to intervene to bring the situation under control when the verbal altercation between two group led to a physical clash.

After a prolonged argument, the followers of Koorath Thangal were allowed to offer Eid namaz in congregation in the same mosque. Police had provided tight security for the namaz.

A majority of Muslims in Ullal had offered Eid namaz in juma mosque (dargah mosque) and other mosques on Sunday. However, followers of Koortha Thangal had observed fast on Sunday and postponed Eid to Monday.

Abdul Rasheed Haji, the president of the management committee of the Juma mosque and dargah had yesterday justified the decision of celebrating Eid al-Fitr on Sunday in spite of the sudden opposition by Koorath Thangal, who is not in touch with the committee for past one year.

“Dakshina Kannada Khazi Thwaka Ahmed Musliyar and Udupi Khazi Ibrahim Musliyar Bekal had already announced Eid after verifying moon-sighting reports from Bhatkal on Saturday night. Hence, in Ullal, assistant Khazi announced the Eid in the absence of Koorath Thangal,” he clarified.
Why two days?

Koorath Thangal was appointed as the Khazi of Ullal in March 2014 following the demise of his father Thajul Ulama Assayyid Abdurrahman Al-Bukhari, who was the Khazi of Ullal for several decades. Koorath Thangal’s several moves had triggered controversy in last couple of years.

According to sources, the reason for fresh controversy is that management committee of the mosque did not inform Koorath Thangal before announcing the end of the Ramadan Saturday night as he was not in touch with the committee.

As soon as Koorath Thangal realized that announcement of Eid was made without his permission, he sent a voice message on social media stating that Sunday will be the 30th day of Ramadan. A few clerics reportedly tried to convince Koorath Thangal to change his decision but in vain.

Eid Clashes are only because of EGO. There are two groups EK & AP who are taking people for ride. People with no knowledge of Islam go behind these fools. Y do we need any Thangal or Mullah to follow Islam? There is Quraan & haddeeth, that is more than enough. people who are half-learned scholars are creating this rift between muslim community. Educated people will never do this. May ALLAH give Hidaya to these fools running behind MULLAH & Thangal.

Udupi, Jun 4: Karnataka Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakhar on Wednesday said that he will take up an issue before a high-powered committee on COVID-19 to find out the possibility of imposing lockdown on a particular house of the person infected with the virus instead of sealing down of entire areas.

Talking to reporters here on Tuesday after reviewing the district's prevailing COVID situation, the minister said the concept and modalities of declaring any area as containment zone has undergone changes in the last two months.

"Hitherto, we were declaring the entire area as the containment zone after detection of coronavirus positive cases. Subsequently, the area of the containment zone was decreased from the whole area to a particular street," the Minister said.

"Now, BJP MLA Raghupati Bhat has given a suggestion to seal down a particular house of the positive patient which would be taken up before the high-powered panel. The district administration concerned could supply all essential items to the particular family," he said.

He further said that the Union government has been providing all facilities to all the states to deal with the situation."

Jan 14: A police complaint was lodged on Tuesday against BJP West Bengal unit president Dilip Ghosh for his threat to "beat up" and "shoot' " anti-CAA protesters, whom he called "infiltrators".

The complaint was registered in Ranaghat police station of Nadia district by a Trinamool Congress worker Krishnendu Banerjee, who alleged that Ghosh was inciting communal passion.

Addressing a party rally on Sunday in Ranathat, about 80 km from Kolkata, Ghosh went ballistic, saying the governments in BJP-ruled Assam, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh have shot dead "like dogs" those protesting against the new Citizenship (Amendment) Act.

Alleging there were one crore infiltrators in the state, Ghosh had accused them of destroying public property worth Rs 500-600 crore during the violent protests against the CAA last month

"Friends, please know these people who are opposing Hindus and Bengalis. In whose interest are they doing this? There are one crore infiltrators. They are having their meals and staying here on our money".

He accused the state's Mamata Banerjee government of remaining silent a spectator to the violence.

"This (violence) happened because there was neither any baton charge, nor firing, nor was any FIR filed. Why? Didi's police did not arrest anybody... because they vote for her".

He then referred to the three states ruled by the BJP.

"In Assam, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh, our governments have shot dead these devils like dogs. They were taken elsewhere and then again cases were filed against them. They will come here, eat, stay, and then destroy property. Do they think this is their zamindari?"

He had said once a BJP government was installed in Bengal, "We will hit them with sticks, shoot them and also send them to jail. Our governments have done exactly that. Mamata Banerjee doesn't have the guts to do anything".

However, his incendiary comments did not meet the approval of sections in the party.

Union Minister Babul Supriyo came out with a tweet slamming Ghosh and distancing the BJP from the comments.

"Very irresponsible of Dilip Da to have said what he said. It is a figment of his imagination... BJP governments in UP and Assam have never resorted to shooting people for whatever reason," he tweeted.

Supriyo's tweet was retweeted by nominated Rajya Sabha member Swapan Dasgupta, considered close to both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.

But Ghosh did not budge and aggressively asked whether the party was being run by Shah or Supriyo.

"People comment according to their understanding. What I feel is that our governments have done it, and so I said all that. If we get a chance we will also do such things," he said, sticking to his earlier comments.

Supriyo also hit back. "Just as he has remarked 'whatever Babul Supriyo has understood he has said', similarly I am saying this is Dilip da's personal opinion, and it has no connection with the party".
