No 'item girl' label for Zareen Khan

April 16, 2012

ZareenaShe is tall and is known for her curvaceous figure in B-Town. Zareen Khan, who was "practically written off after Veer", is currently riding high on the success of her recent hit - Housefull 2.

"It feels great to deliver a hit. After all the criticism I got for Veer, I was scared to even step out of my house. A hit was important," she says. She smiles and adds, "It feels wonderful, now I am being hooted as the hottest heroine of the movie."

With The Dirty Picture bringing the curvaceous Indian women back into the limelight, Zareen says, "I love Kareena but for me, size zero was never in. She looks amazing with more weight on her. Indian women have always been full-bodied and men like voluptuous women. Size zero is a concept of the West and it is only meant for the runway models, not for us."

Zareen, who will be seen next in the sequel to the comic flick Partner (where she has replaced Katrina Kaif), feels that it is safer to do comedy films for her at the moment. She says, "I debuted in a movie where I had a very heavy role. People did not accept me in that character. I relate to the comedy roles that I am doing at the moment. So I have decided to stick to that for the time being. I don't think it will typecast me in the comedy genre."

Zareen's association with Kat goes back to the time when she entered the entertainment industry. For someone who has always been known as Katrina Kaif's lookalike, Zareen is happy that she is gradually losing the tag. Zareen quips, "Even before I entered the industry, it was fed into people's brains that I look like Kat. And Indian audience has very convenient memory; they will only see what is shown to them and will not bother to make their own opinion."

Zareen recently made news for allegedly refusing to do an item song in Zilla Ghaziabad for which she had initially agreed. The reasons cited as the presence of Vivek Oberoi in the film created some controversy and critics talked about her unprofessionalism. Zareen, unhappy with the entire event, clears her stand and says, "It is an unwanted controversy and the entire issue has been blown out of proportion. Manyata is a friend and I am like Sanju's ( Sanjay Dutt) younger sister. I have heard the song and it's fabulous. But I had already spoken to Manyata that if I do another item number at this time, I would be categorized as an item girl. I don't want to be labeled as that. Vivek is not even a part of the song."

Although her entry in the entertainment industry was not much of a problem, Zareen feels she has had to struggle a lot after her debut to be accepted in the industry. For someone who's had a difficult early life, she avers, "I don't have a star boyfriend or father. So I have to work very hard."

Mumbai, May 20: Doing his bit to help people in need during the ongoing coronavirus crisis, and the lockdown 4.0 phase, Bollywood actor Salman Khan has initiated ''Being Haangryy''- food truck facility to distribute, provide ration to needy.

To feed the affected people in Mumbai, the food truck with the words ''Being Haangryy'' written on it, was seen in Mumbai roads on Wednesday, where volunteers are providing huge bags of ration. A long queue of people was standing near the truck to get the essentials.

Many videos of the truck moving around the city providing ration kits to the people in need, surfaced on the internet from earlier this month.

However, the Bajrangi Bhaijaan actor has not announced this initiative himself on his personal social media accounts.

The Sultan actor is staying at his Panvel farmhouse with his nephew Nirvaan Khan and other family members ever since the lockdown was announced.

Earlier, the 54-year-old actor urged people to take up the ''Anna Daan'' challenge and donate to the underprivileged ones who are worst affected by the COVID-19 lockdown.

After urging people to take up the ''Anna Daan'' challenge, the actor posted a video on Twitter, that features him and Iulia Vantur, Jacqueline Fernandez among others loading the bags filled with ration on to a truck.

Khan actively posts videos on his social media handles to raise awareness about the importance of social distancing during COVID-19.

Mumbai, Jul 2: The Mumbai police have summoned noted filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali for questioning in connection with the Sushant Singh Rajput suicide case. According to several reports, casting director Shanoo Sharma too might be questioned in connection with the star’s death.

Reports also state that Kangana Ranaut and Shekhar Kapur, who are not directly involved with the investigation, are likely to be asked to record their statements.

The development comes days after the cops had asked for the details of SSR’s contract with Yashraj Films. The MS Dhoni actor had starred in Shuddh Desi Romance and Detective Byomkesh Bakshi, which were backed by the banner. He was supposed to team up with YRF for Paani, directed by Kapur, but the movie was on hold due to creative differences between the Mr India helmer and the production house.

Sushant died by suicide on June 14, leaving his near and dear ones in a state of shock. Following his demise, fans alleged that several Bollywood biggies had tried to sabotage his career as he was an ‘outsider’, reigniting the nepotism debate.

SSR, who hailed from Patna, made an impact in the TV industry before entering Bollywood with the sleeper hit Kai Po Che. He impressed fans with his performances in PK and Shuddh Desi Romance, consolidating his standing in the industry. It was, however, MS Dhoni that established him as a bankable star. Chhichore was his last theatrical release before his death. Drive, backed by Karan Johar, released directly on Netflix. His last film Dil Bechara is slated to release on Disney+ Hotstar on July 24.

New Delhi, Jun 2: After Amitabh Bachchan, it is actor Akshay Kumar, who has come forward to support Bhumi Pednekar's initiative -- Climate Warrior -- urging the people to plant trees.

Bhumi Pednekar has sought to bring Bollywood together to spread awareness about mother nature through her campaign in view of the coming World Environment Day (June 5).

The campaign endeavours to get leaders from the entertainment industry to tell what is the 'one wish they have for the earth.'

Following the thread, the 'Kesari' actor was seen raising his voice on issues, and have taken steps to bring awareness to important causes like climate change.

"Our Beautiful Planet that has sustained us now needs us to protect it more than ever. During this time we as a community must tread carefully and act immediately" Akshay Kumar was seen saying in a video posted by Pednekar on Instagram.

"A lot of damage has been done and climate change is a grave reality that all of us are facing," he added.

Explaining his one wish to rebuild mother nature, is, as he says: "The simplest act of planting trees."

"I consider this as one of the most basic and efficient deeds that we can exercise individually and also urge others to do so. Let us do our bit to heal and rebuild the only planet we have. So join me and become a Climate Warrior," the 'Padman' actor concluded.

Ahead of the World Environment Day, and in support of Bhumi's initiative, legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan earlier in the day also pledged to be 'climate-conscious' in a bid to protect nature.
