Mumbai, November 29: Priyanka Chopra’s friendship withco-star Shah Rukh Khan has been under the scanner. Their proximity had sent gossip-mongers into a frenzy, linking the two. A few B-Towners too did not refrain from taking swings at PC publicly. The two however preferred to maintain a dignified silence and not add fuel to the rumours. Their silence led to a large section of the industry and the junta to believe that the reports of their alleged affair had driven a wedge in their friendship.

However, seems like it is PC’s fans who are trying to keep her in good spirits and not let negative reports affect her. An insider reveals that Priyanka recently got a CD and a letter from a fan where the fan has recorded one of King Khan’s recent interviews, where he spoke up in defense of his Don 2 co-star. The fan has also written that how SRK has stood by her and asked her to not let any talks upset her.

A source confirms that Priyanka, who is shooting in Hyderbad for the Zanjeer remake did receive the CD and the letter, and was extremely touched by the gesture when she learnt what the CD had. “The CD recording of SRK’s interview had him talk about how sorry he felt for the way Priyanka has been treated, while also praising her for both her first single as well as her performance in Barfi!. He reportedly said: ‘Feel extremely sorry, for she wasn’t shown the respect I show her or other women... Priyanka Chopra is one of the closest friends I have and is very close to my heart and always will be’.”

Interestingly, other fans too have been sending letters to PC, urging her to not let rumours affect her friendships. “When these rumours started, it was upsetting for Priyanka, but she chose to instead concentrate on her films and her music. She has never felt the need to justify her equations or friendships to anyone. But, she is certainly touched to know that her fans have been making such efforts to make sure that she is smiling despite the rumours,” says a source close to the actor.

The actor reached the university campus at around 7.40 pm and attended a public meeting, called by JNU Teacher's Association and JNUSU in response to Sunday's attack on students and teachers by a masked mob armed with sticks and rods.

Deepika stood as former JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar was raising azaadi slogans and left by the time current president Aishe Ghosh started speaking.

The actor's decision to not address the crowd prompted Ghosh to comment, "when you are in a position, you should speak up".

"There are many people in Bollywood who do not put forth their views when they are not be aired. They are considered role models. I appeal to them: Make inspiring films after something has happened but when you are in that position, also talk about the story that is currently happening," she said.

Later, Ghosh said that Deepika expressed solidarity with the JNU students.

Deepika is in the capital to promote her upcoming release, Meghna Gulzar-directed "Chhapaak".

On Monday, the 34-year-old actor told a news channel that she feels proud that people have come out and raised their voice without fear, in reference to the protests against the amended Citizenship Act, the National Register of Citizens and violence in JNU.

"I feel proud to see that we aren't scared to express ourselves... I think the fact that we are thinking about the country and its future.... Whatever may be our point of view, it's nice to see," Deepika told NDTV India.

Mumbai, May 30: Actor Vaani Kapoor on Saturday said she will go on a virtual date with five people as part of an initiative to raise money for daily wage earners, who have been affected due to the nationwide lockdown implemented to rein in coronavirus.

Vaani has teamed up with actor Arjun Kapoor's sister Anshula Kapoor’s online fundraising platform, Fankind, to raise funds for daily wage workers.

Vaani and Fankind have come together to provide five of her fans a chance to go on a virtual date with her - by donating to provide food to daily wage workers.

“As human beings, we will need to come forward and support as many people as possible in need due to the coronavirus pandemic in our country. I’m doing my bit to support the daily wage earners of our country and their families who are in dire situations given the lockdown.

“My activity, in which five lucky winners can have a virtual date with me, will see us collect funds to help feed them and their families across the country," Vaani said in a statement.

Earlier, Arjun too supported the initiative to help daily wage earners.

According to the press release, the funds will go to GiveIndia, a non-profit organisation, which will provide hot cooked meals to wage earners and their families. Each meal costs Rs 30 and will be delivered in various areas of Maharashtra, Bangalore, and Chennai.

A.T.E. Chandra Foundation has also come on board and will be adding 25 percent of the total donation value collected as a matching amount, thereby multiplying the impact, the release said.
